Can I bring into service if I have catless DP installed and ECL is on ?

Recently I got notified that I need to take my car into service for my 3rd.
But I've installed catless DP months back and ECL is on, will they refuse to service me in this case ?

I lived in SF bay area, is there any mod friendly dealership ?

What are the options I have ?

They will service you, but your warranty will be toast.

Bringing the car in with CEL is risky, since the obvious cause of the fault is the modification.

Best bet is the clear the CEL, so the dealer doesn't have find the cause for the fault

I have a Macht Schnell valve controller and it codes out CEL for downpipes. I've had my car in service multiple times and no issues. I would recommend that valve controller so you don't have any lights on

Wow, seems like a solution to me.
I'm going to place order today, is the installation easy to follow ?

Its pretty easy, took me maybe a half hour or so. all you do is use the provided scotchlock tabs and tap into 4 wires from the obd 2 then plug it in

Once you get it make sure to set the coding which will be done on the computer to erase CEL light. the PDF I attached should have all the instructions

Honest answer is that no-one knows what will happen to you.
Its different every day with every dealership / technician.
I have friends that have gone in for an oil service and without any verbal conversation, the dealership made notes on the work order that there is "aftermarket piggyback tuning device installed at time of visit".
They scan cars for service and I am pretty sure they will make notes of emission tampering and CEL on.
It's just the way it is now.
But let us know how it goes.
Always interesting to hear about all the different scenarios that are happening

I'm a bit confused, if you install a catless DP and install BM3 does it still throw the CEL?

I'm not to familiar with BM3 but if its anything like the other flash tunes, its can all be coded out when they flash/tune the ECU.

You need to request the cat delete file when you get the tune

Dealers are trained now to check for downpipes under the car and will document them most of the time these days. They won't tell you but then if you go back for a spun hub or some warranty claim they will break the bad news. They even check the clamps for wear from being removed and reset. Wait until you are out of warranty to add them if you expect BMW to cover anything.

Many of us from the Bay Area, and other parts of the country have a "guy" at the dealership. In fact, I still keep in touch with the same person from back in my 335i FBO days.

Obviously, I can't mention any names to protect the asset, but my advice would be to go to one of the following dealerships in order, and hope that you get the right SA for each location:

1. Stevens Creek BMW
2. Fremont BMW
3. San Francisco BMW

Avoid Peter Pan BMW at all costs unless you want to get blacklisted. Fortunately, this is reversible in the system based on first hand experience.

Just take your car in. Why would they refuse to service your car?

Depends on the dealership, most dont care unless you are asking them to fix an issue related to your tune.
