Anyone like active sound?

When is fake sound a good thing? One more thing to add weight to the car. Less is more in my opinion

I like it and after 3 years, it is still turned on. I also have my exhaust valves fixed open.

I've had mine unplugged for over a year. just got the car back from the dealer and they apparently plugged it back in so they could update the software. really an unpleasant surprise. fills the cabin with contrived noise. couldn't hear the actual motor. disconnected again as soon as I got home.

You don't realize how bad it is until you disable it. Especially with a louder exhaust or the valves open, much better to hear the natural sound from behind the car than the artificial one through the speakers.

It's terrible. The car sounds bad enough as it is without adding all the additional noise.

I go back and forth with it. The car is too quiet with it off, but the sound it produces comes from all the wrong places.

Does the software only get updated when you take it in to the dealer? Took delivery of my F82 this Jan (should I be up to date?), just had my 10K service done, so if I was not up to date, would the service center be expected to update my vehicle even if I didn't request (free)?

It is HORRIBLE. They have ENGINE sounds eminating from the REAR speakers. An exceedingly bad implementation of ridiculous technology.

When you turn it off you can actually hear the awesome (true) sounds of the engine (the thing in the front of the car) AND the (true) excellent exhust sounds (from the rear of the car).

It is sad they put that crap in our cars. The ironic thing is the car sounds wonderful (and much better) w/o it...

I recently got a macht snell valve controller and shut off ASD. It was amazing how quiet the car sounded with it off (I could actually hear the stereo properly).

Unfortunately as someone has already said.. it's just too quiet (unless you have a catless exhaust) you won't hear much inside the cabin with the windows up.

I just run ASD+valves open as my choice.. but shame on BMW for such a lame implementation. All they had to do is pipe intake noise into the cabin with a plastic conduit to the firewall.

I had an old software on my 2015 m3, alex alpine just coded my car with competition package active sound and it's better, to me it sounds good.

I would like to turn it off just to compare, but I'm pretty happy with current setup

Turn it off. Turbos sound better. i guess that could be subjective.

Then I got the car, and haven't bothered with getting it coded off.
