I bought a set of VMR 710s for my 135i, to replace my beat up style 269s.

On the advice of some posts online, I went ahead and bought new OEM valve stems (36146792829) to remount the existing TPMS sensors to.

Dropped everything off at my neighborhood shop this morning and they called me at 2 pm telling me they couldn't figure out any way to get the stems to seat. The threaded portion of the new stems was about 1/8-1/4" longer than the original stems, so when the cover nut was tightened down, the stems would just spin in the holes.

I see some aftermarket TPMS sensors include an aluminum washer (?) that goes on the outside, but these BMW units did not, nor did my original stems, which re-mounted fine in the new wheels, but sucks because I figured I'd replace them while the tires were off.

Anyone run into this before? What am I missing? The stems SHOULD seat in the wheels without the sensors, right?

People need to understand the distinction between OE and OEM because right now people use OEM to refer to both original and aftermarket parts which is hugely confusing. OE is original equipment, OEM is (usually) equivalent hardware from a manufacturer that makes the factory stuff but they're not factory parts and can differ anywhere from just lacking branding to that plus using less expensive components. Huge difference. Anyway, you bought the BMW branded ones so they're OE not OEM. Hope this helps even tho it doesn't answer the question you asked.
