not BMW related: need some info for long island stay

we are flying info JFK and picking up rental car for a sports camp in yaphank, NY.

will arrive two days early but our hotel is full so we must stay elsewhere the first night. what area should we stay in that is near trains in/out of the city? we want to go into the city for a day. thanks in advance.

There really are so many options. What part of manhattan do you want to visit? Since you have a car and staying in mahattan is expensive maybe check out Hotels near the Long Island Rail Road lines.
Check out Floral Park. Short drive from JFK. They have a rail line right there into penn station. Park the car at the hotel and take mass transit/ubers to visit manhattan.

If staying on the island, Id look into Long Island city or hotels in great neck/bayside on the port Washington line to the city (best LIRR line)
