2017 X5 Order Pending - Wheel Question
I am in the process of ordering a 2017 F15 X5 with Msport pkg and many more options I will list on a separate thread. I am on the fence about ordering the 20" 469M with Performance Run Flat tires. I live within the 5 boros of NYC and fear I will blow out a tire and/or rim nearly every drive. I also want to keep the tires on year round. Any suggestions? I'm nearly committed to the 19" with all season tires but the 20"s look amazing!

What about the spare tire option? I struggled with the same on the tire choice, but I opted for dedicated winters. My new 'summers' are the Conti DWS06 go-flats.

Yeah, went through the same thought process when we ordered ours. In the end I went with 469m and just resigned myself to having to buy a winter set. A whole set is expensive but, to be honest, not as expensive as I thought they would be.

Ordering the spare tire option as well, Replaced 7 tires on my 14' 535xi in the past 3 years. So happy I had the tire and wheel insurance! It always seems I got a disabling flat when there was a 3 day holiday weekend or something! Decisions, Decisions!

I wouldn't even consider the 19" as when I looked my 16 M Sport (came standard with the 469M here in Canada) and they look tiny on the car. This car needs 21s or 22s to look proper IMO.
Definitely go for the 20" 469M... think about it this way. You won't regret having the nicer of the 2 wheels but you are almost certainly going to regret NOT having the nicer of the 2 wheels.

Did you get the set sold by BMW? How did they perform in ice and snow?

Since you're worried about damage/blowouts vs winter swaps, I'd say go for the 469Ms. The extra meat with 275/315 will prob help vs hurt in terms of absorbing potholes.
I def regret not having 20" wheels. Almost ready to get some 611M reps.

I ordered my 15 X5 50i with the 469 wheels and love them. We also have some challenging roads here in Colorado. I purchased the 449 wheel and tire set for my winter setup and am very happy with this combination. Your dealer may give you a break on the 449's when you order. Good luck with the order.

After having lower profile tires on my 335 I struggled with this decision too. I ended up ordering the 469 wheels and the BMW 491 winter wheels (also 20's). The winter package performed great and I actually think they look better than the 469s. When the tread wears out on them I'll likely use them with my primary set of rubber. We've been lucky and have not had any pothole issues either. The setup on the f15 does a great job of absorbing road imperfections. My vote is go 469 and order winter wheels or switch to an all season. FWIW, I also ordered the space saver spare, which I think is a must.

It's a little late but if you are leasing I would go with the 469s and have fun with them over the summer. Switch them out to the conti DSWs as the new all around tire for winter and summer.
When done with the lease put the original tires back on. Make sure there is about 2-4mm (forget which one for BMW) left on the tire before taking them off. |
