Seattle living

Soooooo.....

Looks like I have a pretty good job opportunity in the Seattle area; actually at SEA-TAC. I'm not sure yet how I feel about going back to work...

Anywho, does anyone here live in that area? If so, where should I look at living? I want to stay within 20 minutes of the airport and I'm DONE commuting!

Thanks...

There are some decent areas and crappy areas around there. What are you looking for for housing... Apartment, condo, townhouse, single family.. What is your budget? Prices swing wildly. An okay house in Federal Way won't even get you a crumby condo in West Seattle, but West Seattle is a much nicer place to be.

Tukwila has the highest crime per capita in the US, and right next door is S Renton is not nice, but Renton Highlands is decent.

Tukwila? That is nuts. Is that statistic due to drug crimes and robberies around Southcenter?

I assume so.. I would doubt it is for violent crimes. The Southcenter Mall has like a dozen reported car break-ins a day.

I lived in Tacoma for 3 years. I really enjoyed it. Had a place at the Harmon Lofts off Pacific Ave. , 1200 sqft loft with mountain view. This was back in 2011 and I paid roughly $1550 plus utilities. My friends who spent the same amount in Seattle were in small studios or 750 sqft 1 bed/baths. Tacoma work for me cause close to work and easy drive to Seattle. Tons of stuff to do year round if you are a outdoors type person.

@OP - I am pretty sure that you should include a budget when asking about housing recommendations.

Gregory Heights or Normandy Park

/thread

Here's a pretty affordable place
Pretty bland exterior, but the interior is relatively nice and it seems to be in a good neighborhood.

https://www.redfin.com/WA/Burien/260...66/home/332118

Straight shot 11 minutes into work.

whoa just drove through this neighborhood on street view... and... not anything like what I am used to

Compared to Bay Area pricing and that much of a house, it's a no brainer to get that

I would recommend stay far from I-405. You will spend most of your life stuck in traffic. Rush hour is like a second job around here.

He is working at the airport... I405 stinks just like I5 stinks. Unless he goes to Federal Way, Tukwila or West Seattle (on 99), he has to be on a trafficy highway. Third worst traffic in the country.

We still don't know preferences or budget. Kind of a moot conversation without that.

Guys, remember he is from So. Cal. Therefore, I changed your posts to translate it into something that he would understand.

No - it's a Toyota.

Treks usually have numbers with the name (I have a 750 multi-track)

THANKS!! Now I understand!!

Will probably rent as anything closeish is either too small, too expensive or is older than my oldest! We're coming from 4 bed, 2 3/4 bath 2250 sqft house with a 3-car garage. I won't give up what we already have...

I'm thinking $600ish is the top, must have a decent master "suite" and at least a 2-car garage.

THANKS for the suggestions. I've been going blind looking at listings. I'm seriously rethinking this opportunity and just staying put for now. I WILL be moving out of The People's Republik as soon as I can as Moonbeam just made me a felon!

I don't think there is anywhere that I would live within 20 min. of Seatac at 3X your price point. I would look along the light rail line that goes from Seatac to the UW. That way you don't have to drive at all in our terrible traffic.

Thanks..... I forgot a couple of things.....

Single story and at least 3/4 acre. I'm tired of hearing my neighbors dog barking and their 0200 parties! I also don't want to have to smell them smoking!

I'm actually more interested in time than distance and am probably looking for the impossible.

I really do appreciate the help!!!!!!

You are not moving here then with those qualifications, unless you lower expectations. I looked and looked when I moved here, and you are looking for the impossible, or you're looking at a shithole with land that, miraculously, somebody has not found yet to tear down and put three houses on.

Yup, you aren't getting anything decent with that much land and close to Seattle. It might not be Bay Area prices, but they are getting pretty damn high
