Size winter tires 20" 469

I just ordered a new X5 40e!! Can't wait to get hold of it!! Fantastic to get rid of the Tesla! 😝

I plan to use the 20" M-Sport 469 wheels for the winter setup. Anyone driving with 315/35/20 and 275/40/20 and want to share your experience?

My Q7 had 295.35.21 with dedicated winter/snow & ice tires on them and did not have any issues. I currently have the OEM 21" and plan to use the 20" 469M wheels as winter and do not anticipate any issues either.

I plan to use my stock 469M in the upcoming winter as it will be my first winter with the X5. I am getting a set of 22" summer wheels, so my 469M will be my dedicated snows. I have a set of 275/40/20 winter tires from my previous Range Rover which I am being told will fit on both the front and rear (slightly stretched on the rear of course).

Ok, good to know it's possible to "downsize" the rear tires even though the wheel is wider. :-) Not much to choose from in 315 winter tires.. :-(

I debated this before last winter as well but I found many people on this forum are running with 315s in the rear with dedicated winters or all-seasons without any issues. I ended up going with 20's and 315s in the rear. I took mine out in the blizzard, since we didn't really have any other major storms, and it felt perfectly planted and better than my old MDX with all seasons and 18s. Will a narrower tread be better, yes - for many reasons, but many people run with that setup and are fine. All this of course is relative to how you use your vehicle. Someone who is in the mountains running with snow chains frequently, for example, may want to rethink a 20" setup (although it can also be done).

Thank you guys for the input. As I live in Norway (with a lot of mountains and snow), I will have dedicated winter tires.

I'm considering studded or not. I live in the city though, but drive a few times to the cabin in the mountains..

you will have less traction with studded tires when there isn't ice. i do not know your winter conditions in your area but if you have more ice and compacted snow that turns to ice throughout the year than bare roads then studded may be the way to go however if you have more paved roads and only encounter ice a few times per year stick with the non studded.

We don't have a lot of ice in the city or in the mountains, mostly packed snow. Sounds like I should go for non studded. Thank you for the input, iconoclast.

i am only giving general advice from my experience. if there is a regional sub-forum for your area perhaps more detailed information may be available but either way best of luck and safe travels.

We have a Norwegian forum, but there is no dedicated forum for F15 owners as we are quite few owners compared to for example in the US.

No worries iconolast, I"ll not come chasing for you if I'm stuck in the blizzard.. Under normal winter conditions my F11 (not xdrive) managed the winter roads to our cabin - I assume the F15 is way better!
