Will 265/35/18 on 18x9 +48 rub?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on fitting some Nitto NT05 265/35/18 on my Alufelgen rear wheels which are 18x9 +48.

Will this clear the rear stock unrolled guards?

I will be fitting KW v2 coilovers and lowering about 30mm.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Probably not. It'll be close. I rubbed back there with 265 on my alufelgens at stock ride height. Rolled the fender lips and it was perfect, even after lowering.

I also think it will be close but fine, might rub a little once lowered. Rolling doesn't help as much as just adding a little camber.

NT05 run wide. At the very least you will need a roll + negative camber. Also, E82 rear fenders do not roll well, at least not as well as the E90/92

Personally, after having run multiple iterations of size and offset in the back, I don't see how this will not rub without significant work

To be clear, by probably not, I meant it will probably not fit correctly without work.

I did not know NT05s ran wide, N555s definitely do not. Hmm, if they run as wide as PSS, etc, it will be close, probably will take max camber if lowered 30mm.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll have to re-evaluate my 255/35 tyre options as I'm not willing to molest my stock guards or run max camber

Honestly, I wish I had just cut mine. The lip serves no purpose structurally.

NT05 overall width is 10.59 on nitto website.
PSSs are listed at 10.7 on tirerack.

Both are from a 265/35/18. So, in that size the NT05 is smaller, it looks like it is slightly smaller in most sizes but i definitely didn't go though all of them. Just thought that might help with decisions. Tire rack has most section widths listed, its helped me in the past find tires to fit.

Section width is only part of it, tread width determines clearance. PSS have very square shoulders, so do NT05 (site wont tell you that). By comparison the same size V12 has 10.6 section but only 9.1 tread width (compared to 10.7 Section and 10.5 tread width on PSS)

So same size V12 will give you more clearance but have a more stretched look the same size PSS

Fair enough, usually you can get both measurements (section width and track width/footprint) from the suppliers. Just wanted to make sure you were using all the tools available.

Section width will likely be the concern for strut clearance where track width will be where the fender/fender liner issues will be. I at this point know very little about fitment on a 1 series as i haven't even picked mine up yet from the dealer. However i have been around the block a few times when it comes to shoehorning a tire onto a car it's just straight up not suppose to fit on. (255s on a rather low mkv) Any of my advice is coming from vw world so its all with a grain of salt i suppose.

Best of luck.

UPDATE:

Fitted 265/35/18 Nitto NT05 last week, lowered about 20mm. Light scrubbing when the chassis twists entering/exiting driveways etc.

Got the rear guards rolled, still rubs on the rear bumper tab/corner

Will dial in some neg camber with my new alignment and hope it clears, otherwise I may have to trim the rear tab

That's not bad Totti. Yep, that rear bumper tab area is the problem. I went through one set of tires at max camber, seemed reduce the number of miles they'll last in half or so. For sure make sure they dial out almost or all of the toe, which they will not want to do since then it shows up out of specs on their spec sheet.

I think if I raise the car 5mm and dial in -2deg rear camber it will clear. My alignment shop lets me choose my settings while I stand under the hoist along side him

Jealous, wish I could run NT05s, but they don't make them in sizes for my wheels.

Fuck that I'm not made out of solid gold.

If it was $50 per corner less I'd be all over them.

True. I've had some luck with boost by gear control lately. Still compensating for lack of rear end road holding though.
