Tire sizes
I bought from the tire rack Enkei wheels with the following specs:
18x8 et 42 with 225/40R18 18x9.5 et 45 with 255/35R18 This tires are stretched for my liking especially the rears. Now I am going to buy new tires I was thinking 235/40R18 front 275/35R18 or 285/35R18 rears Car is on stock ride height. It is also being used fro autocross (no class limitations we are not part of the SCCA). I want the tires to be flush on the side with the wheels. CURRENT FRONT: CURRENT REAR:

Are you sure those front rims are only 8" wide? There's a lot of stretch for a 225 tire. Same comment applies to the rear. The tires look skinny. Are they are Bridestone runflats from a 3 series?
You will have major rubbing with 275 on the rear. If you get a high performance road tire in 255 its probably about as much as you can fit ET45 wheel, and even that might need a camber adjustment. |

Thanks for the input John_01.
Here is a copy of the receipt which indicates it is indeed an 8" and a 9.5". Also look how stretched they are, fugly. REAR: FRONT:

Something aint right... Maybe the manufacturer had a bad lot? May want to stop by Proline and compare with other tires with the same specs...
I'm running Front: 18x8.0, 215/40 R18 - Rear: 18x9.0, 245/35 R18 and mine are flush...

That's a big stagger. I'd just go square with max tire up front if you're doing AutoX. That involves a different wheel setup.

Bad choice on my part, but I just got this not too long ago. Do you think the the 275 or 285 in the rear will flush it against the rim? It is really ugly

More than likely, just make sure you have space for that much tire.

Though this should be uniform as it requires a standard measurement in mm. You can convert the mm to inches - (mm/25.4=in) if you simply want to measure it to verify. Thanks for the props, love the car, may see you at the autox sometime, been to a couple of them watching my son-in-law run his e46 M3...

To be clear, sizes are not constant across brands. Some run small.

That definitely looks like more stretch than normal. The Dunlops must just run a little narrower than most tires. I wouldn't recommend the 275 tire on the rear of your car. The 255 is about the most you are going to be able to fit on there before having to modify your fenders.

Thanks, I guess tires are like tire gauges, they are supposed to follow the same calibration but when you use them different gauges different results. 255 is really too stretched it looks like those stance set-up's. What brand of tires sits wider than the Dunlops? How about I go 265 to be safe if there is one?

A 265 is going to be too wide. You could try the Michelin PSS. Those are pretty beefy.

Switched to 235/40R18 front and 265/35R18 rear and what a difference in looks. Too bad it rubs for now I will roll the fenders and that should take care of that. I'll take pictures later
