Best cleaner for exhaust pipes, OE '08 e92 M3?

Having a hard time getting the pipes super clean and shiny, outer and inner. Any product suggestions?

you'll need:

1)APC= all purpose cleaner
-i would recommend meguiars as it is economical or optimum power clean. both can be used on various surfaces so it is a nice bang for your buck.
2)metal polish
-i recommend p21s polishing soap
3)steel wool
-i don't think most people need this but it is a very aggressive method to get your tips squeaky clean.

use the apc to wash the tips with some brushes. then use the p21s as directed. i would bet this will suffice. if not you can use the steel wool with the p21s and clean that way after the apc step.

I use Eagle One never dull. It's cheap, convenient, and works well. Any auto parts store should carry it.

Buy 0000 grade steel wool, it's finer (softer) and does a great job with the metal polish.

Looks like I will need the steel wool for the inside, I'll get that, thanks.

+1 for the 0000 steel wool. They are fine for the oem chrome tips.

+1 rjd890's steps and add the steel wool. This is what I do and it's all you'll need. I had 6 years of crap on mine and they looked like new.

I tossed on a little colinite metal wax which set the whole package off nicely.

Bluejob.

Harley guys have been using it for years on their chrome exhaust pipes and other bits.

Wipe it on with damp cloth. Wipe dry. Done. Looks like new. No need to fuss with steel wool or any other multi-step procedures.

I'll try this too....have steel wool as back up....and 4 exhaust pipes to try each method for comparison (every Harley pipe I've seen is shining bright)

Another vote for the P21S polishing soap. Works beautifully and lasts forever. I occasionally use it on my windows to clean stubborn bug guts, too.

I have had to resort to 0000 steel wool to get the really stubborn carbon off. Not sure what it is, but sometimes flakes of it get burnt onto the insides of the tips. I start with the steel wool to get that stuff off, then finish up with the P21S polishing soap.

That's a good combo, works well.

This is what I use for my Akra's Ti tips. If you spend enough time on the tips, you can get it looking like brand new. It really scrapes off the exhaust build up if you don't do clean the tips regularly.

I just used p21s as well- I had bought some steel wool but I figured I'd try using the sponge that came with the p21s first, and it was enough to get rid of all the carbon.

Mine were bad because I am running no cats. I used some standard Turtle Wax polishing compound and it worked well.

And that got rid of the stuck on carbon deposits?
