Oil Temperature & Engine Cooling

After an 80 degree F track day at Lime Rock Park, I have to say that I'm pretty satisfied that BMW has properly designed the intercooling, engine cooling & oiling system, for the M4, to be truly track-worthy.

My car is stock and after running a 25 minute lapping session, at full throttle/boost, probably 90% of the run, the oil temperature never showed higher than the indicated 220degF. Power never felt compromised, during the run due to heat (a consistent 131 mph at the end of the Sam Posey straight) and the intercooler heat exchanger, on top of the engine, felt cool to the touch after my lapping sessions. Pretty unbelieveable.

I'll be at Mt. Tremblant in three weeks, and it will likely be hot, so I'll report back after that event, as well.

I agree. The cooling in the F8X is pretty well engineered .

90% of the time at full throttle/boost , aren't you a bit overoptimistic?

What dates will you be at LCMT? Are you going with the BMW Boston chapter (Bimmers across the border event)? It is a great track, enjoy it

I've found only when it hits above 105 degrees will engine really feel some power loss. That's still quite impressive

I tracked at RPM last weekend @ 85+ weather. The heat exchanger was cool to the touch, I love showing that off to guys who are used to hot engines after a run. Both new C7 Z06 ran in limp mode after 3-4 runs due to overheating. The Vette engineers need to take notes from the M division.

The most track capable Corvette ever can't do more than 4-5 laps without overheating? WTF

Touching tge top if a supercharger isn't the same as,touching an intercooler. Try touch the turbo to compare

Vette also is coping with 200 more hp. Much harder to deal with supercharged v8 with 600 plus hp

LOL. You would not have a good day if you touch the turbos. But superchargers are not driven by hot exhaust gas, not apples to apples. It sits on top of the intake manifold where temps shouldn't be hot and driven by belt.

Agreed the Vette has 200 more HP, but if you can't run it on the track for more than 15min then it's useless for track purposes. GM hasn't announced a recall, even though every owner reported overheating on the track. I'm a Vette fan by the way and love the new design, almost bought a Z06 last year.

I am very impressed with the cooling on this car. I am actually at the track right now and its hot and VERY humid and car doing phenomenal even with JB4 at max power.

eficiency of the power adder affects this as well

turbos are usually more efficient.

it takes HP to drive a super charger
