G-Power came to its senses and finally made a performance upgrade less powerful than an earthquake.

The German tuning-house is well-known for its obscenely-powerful modified Bavarian marvels. In fact, some BMW aficionados have developed a Pavlovian reflex and automatically associate the term “G-Power” with a very potent BMW.

They’re right, though, because G-Power’s latest offering consists of a tuning upgrade dedicated to BMW’s current M3 and M4 sports cars, which boosts the power output of the vehicles all the way up to the M5’s territory.

Thanks to an in-house developed Bi-Tronik 2 V2 ECU remap, the German tuning specialist was able to extract 552 horses from the 3-litre, 6-cylinder Twin-Turbocharged engine, making it as powerful as the standard M5. Come to think of it, the 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) torque figure surpasses the M5’s output, so that makes the tuned cars mightier than the stock V8-powered monster.

FYI, that’s 127 horses more than the stock engine delivers and if you think a remap on these things is a walk in the park; well, think again! To implement such an upgrade, G-Power had to crack the factory 128-bit encryption and while they were at it, a speed limit bypass was considered a must.

In fact, at the customer’s request, the Germans will raise the top speed all the way to a theoretical 330 Km/h (205 Mph), even if G-Power states that in reality the car will actually achieve only around 310 km/h (192 Mph).

But this is not only about brute force, because G-Power concentrated on reducing unsprung mass for improved handling by adding its 21-inch Hurricane RR forged alloys in the package. How could a 21 inch rim reduce unsprung weight? Well, they’re made from ultra-light aircraft-grade aluminum.
