Are cat less DPs giving CEL?

If not what's required? Tune or does a JB4 solve the issue

yes they will give you a cel. jb4 will auto delete the code but you will still fail the readiness if you have to do emissions.

BMS Can Flap module can also do it for you.

Yes catless downpipes will give you CEL. As mentioned above, you can use the JB4 or the BMS can flap module to take care of it.
I recommend you get JB4 + DP combo because getting catless DP without a proper tune to fully take advantage of it is not worth it IMO.

Piggyback tune isn't required, the Macht Schnell EVC module can get rid of the CEL and a number of other features:

No doubt JB4 would take advantage but I have ER DP's with no tune and they work great for throttle response and sound with flaps open (can flap).

Yes forgot to mention the sound. With or without a tune, Catless DP will add a very nice sound to this car.

It has to be connected at all times to prevent the CEL.

if the cel is left on too long, will it cut power to the car? I only ask bc a buddy of mine's x5 had the cel, after some time it started to flash and a warning told him to pull over. the car stopped and could not be started again. he needed to have it towed to the dealership.

A CEL from downpipes will not affect anything. Its just annoying to have light on in the dash
