6MT with Aftermarket Exhaust...Faster????
About to order a 2016, and thinking that maybe I'll opt for the 6MT and using the $2900 savings from not selecting the DSG and use it to put a better sounding, better performing aftermarket exhaust on. When I added one to my '98 M3 it made a HUGE difference.
Any hard statistics yet on how performance improves with addition of an aftermarket exhaust for and F82 M3? |

Aftermarket exhausts MOSTLY just add noise unless you change out the stock downpipes or delete the secondary cats. Just have to do some research as to which brands are simply mufflers, mufflers with midpipes or mufflers with midpipes and downpipes all included. |

....VW???? Well, my first car was a 4MT (LOL) 1977 Rabbit! That's the last VW I owned or drove (but it was a heck of an awful lot of fun at 95mph downhill in the mountains shaking violently) Uphill was a different story......

Even if aftermarket exhaust added 10 hp, the DCT would still be quicker/faster. Buy the 6MT because you like the 6MT, not because you can easily mod it to go faster than a DCT... b/c you probably can't. Assuming all equal mods, the DCT will be quicker than the 6MT.
Of course, at the highest hp levels, 6MT may still be the way to go as there has been limited experience in upgrading the DCT to handle super high hp (600+ hp to the wheels). |
