No downpipe is dealer friendly and none even catted versions can can guarantee no CEL unless a tune is used or CEL eliminator.

Any mod that removes the catalyst will technically void your power train warranty, your individual dealer may be able to look the other way. But if you have any powertrain issues and a field engineer inspects the vehicle and finds the mods, or data sent from the diagnostic systems indicates data outside of normal parameters you might be paying out of pocket since warranties are for un modified vehicles.

If you want to play you may need to pay! Just saying mod at your own risk.

Just noticed you have Dinan even they will void your warranty since they're warranty covers what BMW won't because of there tuner.

People like Dinan because they offer a warranty with their products in the case you have a problem they caused and BMW won't warranty it. Generally you buy Dinan for this peace of mind and the quality of their products.

Putting a catless DP isn't legit with New Jersey, and if you have issues with the drivetrain BMW may cause a stink with aftermarket performance parts. You will get a CEL with the Dinan tune if you put in catless.

It seems slightly weird you went with Dinan, (the safe choice) and then want to put in DPs which could cause you emissions issues and warranty issues. Most people who do DPs use JB4 which will filter the CEL for no cats (but allow all other check engines).

Catless DPs will give you more power, even with Dinan (most likely) 10-20rwhp at most. You might find running with a bottle or two of torco in each tank will give a bit more as well.

We currently have a 50% no CEL success rate on our Catbypass Pipes and matching 02 spacers from customer feedback. Since your in the area, you should stop by and take a tour around the facility. Were located in Fort Washington PA.

No one will honestly have the correct answer for you in response to your dealership question.
The real honest truth is each dealership will address this scenario however they choose to.
Some service advisor's are cool and wont worry, and some will give you a hard time if you powder coat your brake calipers another color.
Best is to speak with your service advisor and ask him his thoughts, cause if you replace your catalytic convertor, everyone technician will know because of how awesome your car sounds. And what happens next is everyone wants to check out a badass M car. Don't hide it cause they will find it.
Gotta pay to play my friend.

Well at least the 3/4 of dealers in WA will "shut the hood". If you go in to fix a window regulator, no issue. If you go in because a fuel rail has failed, most likely you are going to have a bad day.

What I don't know is for an oil change what happens. 8000 miles to go....

So, I didn't get a cell and my JB4 doesn't have "future use", set (which filters these errors). This is with the akrapovic DP with BMW MPE. I ran it on the dyno to 7200+ rpm (limiter) in 5th gear (like 165mph) on about 10 runs and no cell.

I chose the Akra because of their past relationships with BMW, it has bendy pipe just like factory and it is insulated (the #1 reason) just like the factory.

I am kicking myself because I brought a camera to take pics before and after to see if anyone could really see a difference and especially to the untrained but other wise knowledgeable technical eye, but I left it in the car. But I am pretty sure they may be able to tell just starting it up. Maybe they won't sell many MPEs and therefore think the race sound is really on the MPEs.

thought o2 spacers were not a good idea for primary o2 sensors

they aren't

id imagine they are only spacing the 2nd o2 sensor since that is the sensor that can detect if the catalyst is working efficiently

You don't put on O2S spacer on the primary O2S. It is for the secondary.

Sometimes, really just depends on the downpipe design and the location of the secondary O2S bung.

Your best bet is to go with catted DP. Even then no CEL is not guaranteed.
Even high flow catted downpipes are not dealer friendly.

Does the cel go away if the dp's are removed?
Could you not just swap the dp's for stock if you need to send the car to the dealer?

You need to clear it for it to go away.
You can theoretically swap the DP for every dealer visit.
I take my car all the time to the dealership for regular maintenance , never had a problem. Most dealership will not give you a hard time unless you are taking the car for a repair that might be linked to the mod.
