91 Octane Tune with cats. What should I expect?

Considering JB4, but wondering if it is even worth it living in Cali with access only to 91 everywhere. Oh we have special situations, but I drive my car all the flippin time, and screwing with additives and what not is not in the plans.

So I would be looking at stage 1. About 30-40hp?

I am currently running Map 3 (a 91 octane map), the power increase I suspect is 30hp, the car runs flawless and the extra power is noticeable. I ran the car on Map 1 (aka stage 1) and around 6000 rpm the car fell flat on it's face , I suspect 91 octane and an aggressive tune just don't blend(timing being pulled). I'm still on the fence running e85, but I do have that option. This may be an option for you.

E85 not an option. I have to fill up 2x per week most weeks. If it was not my DD no problem. But it is... so gotta be that crap CA 91.

Since it is your DD, I suggest to go with Stage 1. Even with that alone, it still will put a smile in your face everytime you drive it.

+1

I've found a local station that has 100 octane. I'll try mixing it up, but I'll keep the tune less aggressive when running straight 91 octane.

I have your solution.

Methanol injection. I've ran this on an SRT-4 and on my 135i with great results. The system is easy to set up and integrate with a JB4. (not the stage 1 version).

I'm waiting for a good set of intake pipes are available with meth. bungs installed, this will make the install basicly plug n play.

If your not familiar with methanol injection, due some research. I'm planning on running boost juice (its pre mixed, just drop in your methanol tank). You get instant octane and intake cooling.

I've found 95 or 96 gives me as consistent performance with redline pulls compared to 100. Luckily my station also has a pump ov vp 100 mixed with 91 for a 95 to 96 belnd. Technically it's 95.8 from owner of store.

If you are in so cal there are quite a few propel fuel stations that offer E85. If you download propel Fuel add it will show you how far you are located from a local E85 station. The JB4 offers many options. I like my car to run on E85 and runs great.

So it sounds like map3 and about 30hp is what I should expect, and switch over to map1 when I have decent fuel.

Ran in on my boosted RX8. I am familiar, and it is awesome. Especially if you can get it to the point where you only refill every tank of gas or so.
