Momentum intake system

Hi,

Has anyone tried this yet? They claim 17hp gains and it is going for around $1300.

Nice video, ED is def on my bucket list. As for intake, they're just for show. No intake companies has been proven to gain more than 5hp (high side) over the M intake. Sure, they can have filters that lets more air and contaminant pass through to call it "high flow." Blame the M division for being so good at what they do.

I would spend the $1,300 elsewhere. Like DPs and JB4, which your butt dyno can really feel.

If you really like intake for the look, I would look at Arma Speed. It's high quality stuff. Dinan is also CF intake coming, I'm sure it will cost an arm and a leg. Also, Agency Power is coming out with a more affordable intake with open filter = loud spooling sound.

Pretty much nailed it. There is tons of stuff you can do with 1300 that can add power to the car

I think stock intake system is well designed unit.
These ridiculously priced intake systems simply replace stock air box with fancier looking box with cone style air filter.
For $200, you can just take out carbon filter + replace paper air filter with higher flow air filter such as BMC/K&N/aFe and etc. It will net you similar HP gain.

Those plastic intake windows don't seem to fit the m3's personality

If by similar gain, you mean no gain, then yes, highly suspect dynos from manufacturers aside.

For looks and sound, this intake is great, and if that floats your boat, go ahead. But for HP/torque gain, yeah, no. (General you, not specific you.)

Running on a stock tune, the ECU limits the boost. I therefore do not see how reducing the restriction on the intake tract will provide any additional power.

I have read elsewhere on the forum that some tuners entirely removed the OEM intake system and did not see any gains. That tells that the intake is not the choking point.

Running with very aggressive tunes and/or bigger turbos, then it could be possible to see some gains with a better intake. But that needs to be verified.

We haven't seen any gains on the dyno with the airboxes removed.

However, if they are showing dyno data - it should be what we see when we see an M3/M4 equipped with a system.

Not sure why the drf files are both numbered 003.

Interesting - AFE's own data

S55 F series - stock airbox 112 CFM; AFE Momentum 164 CFM - improvement by 46%

See below for similar AFE system for N55 F series - stock airbox 150 CFM; AFE 205 CFM - improvement by 37%
http://afepower.com/shop/details_new...L&&brandID=136

Does lowly N55 motor's single intake really flow more than S55 dual intakes either stock or aftermarket ???

Evolve is also developing an Eventuri intake. Bottom line is for turbo cars, filters directly on the turbo or short, direct piping are ideal.

Your on the right track. There might be too much money in the game for everyone to play by the rules. Interested to see if the data on this site changes over time. I have a feeling on my car the dyno wouldn't show those gains based on what reputable people have been saying about an intake upgrade.

The one thing I've yet to see are independent dynos from customers not affiliated with these intake manufacturers.

Yeah, no surprise there.

Intakes make power on intake manufactures dynos and some times on the parts dealer dynos. I call it retail dyno numbers.

Thanks bro, it was an incrediable trip!

And I agree with you on the "money better sent elsewhere" but just wanted to know if any members installed this and got the numbers they are advertising.
