BMW: #1 Most Reputable Company in 2015 (Global RepTrak 100)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Great news for BMW, it has secured the top spot as the most reputable company in 2015, beating out Google and Daimler. Full Forbes article in the link.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/susanada...anies-in-2015/

Quote:
It’s intriguing that two car companies are also at the top of the reputation list, given that their products are gas-guzzling pollution-producers. But BMW makes an effort to portray itself not just as an auto maker but as a local business wherever it has dealers and production facilities, says Nielsen, providing jobs and forming strong relationships with consumers. Its reputation as a distinctive brand with a premium on reliable engineering and safety helps it rise to the top in consumers’ minds. As early as 1980 the company was producing cars that got 26 miles per gallon and nowadays environmentalists are surely pleased about its new electric i3. “Over the last five to ten years they have really put a lot into stakeholder perception and input,” says Nielsen. (BMW is a RI client.)

There are five other carmakers on the list: Daimler at No. 3, Volkswagen at No. 14, Honda at No. 61, Ford at No. 65 and General Motors at No. 96. Honda took the worst reputation hit of the group this year after a massive international recall of faulty airbags in February. CEO and President Takanobu Ito said he would step down this coming June. Honda wound up recalling some 25 million cars, knocking the company down 19 slots this year over last.

For the last 10 years, Nielsen’s firm has been putting out its list, called the Global RepTrak 100. It comes from a three-month-long survey it conducted from January through March, of 61,000 people in 15 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Spain the U.K. and the U.S. It started with a list of the world’s 500 largest companies by revenue, then culled that to 150 using reputation lists it’s put together over time. To be considered, a company had to be well known in the countries surveyed and have revenues of more than $6 billion in the U.S. or $1 billion globally.

Wow, so if I drive my BMW, while wearing my Rolex and surfing Google on my iPhone, listening to the Frozen soundtrack, while on my way to take pictures with my Canon camera, I'll be the most reputable person on the planet! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

Unfortunately, this does not apply to all dealers (some are great, for the record).

No, you have to be Googling Diamler, to see how much better the M3 is over the new C63s, and have a LEGO figure dangling from your rear view mirror. Only then will you truly be reputable.

How outdated is the current dealer model today? What a joke.

I cheer for Tesla anytime they go up against a good ole boy network on car dealers. They bring minimal value and cost consumers more than we think they do. Next company to change the model will get my business.

Their lobbies are just extremely powerful and I will be shocked if an existing manufacturer (TESLA was new and is still fighting the dealer empire) changes the way they do business in the near term.

But Tesla is changing it. They are going direct in a few states now, and are pushing to broaden that into other markets.

When people see what Tesla offers as far as maintenance and convenience, they will see the difference between that, and a free bottle of water and some cookies. Dealerships (most of them) bring minimal value to a car purchase. There are good ones out there, but most are not.

Drive an X5 that's towing your Fiat (probably because it's not working) while doing the other things and you're all set.

I just noticed down the list is Rolls Royce aerospace. Wonder what they did to crack the list. Their US headquarters is right down the street in Reston (a few miles away from the VW/Audi NA headquarters).

I'm sure they'd love to but legally they pretty much have their hands tied.

I couldn't find the complete list. But glad to have BMW on top. Let's hope they continue the hard work.
Just out of curiosity, where's does Toyota fall in the list? Honda, VW, Ford, were mentioned but not Toyota.

Surprise

Its surprising that they refer to 'reliable engineering' considering the number of recalls BMW issues regularly on various models. But anyway well done

I found this Forbes article listing the major automakers and their recall rate relative to sales. BMW is about the middle of the road (8 of 15) when it comes to recalls. However, one thing this article doesn't really hit on are the types of recalls and impact they have (dangerous or not); a seat back adjustment issue isn't as serious as your car's brakes not working, for example.
