B8 S4 Undisguised!
Well, here's some pics of a 2009 black B8 S4. The quads look pretty nice, and the front is much better than the A4's, but I think something's missing. It looks a little bland. For now I blame it on the lighting and color. Right now I'm starting to realize the limitations of Audi's current design language as well. There seems to be a waning amount of originality going into their designs. The character line also looks like it could have been executed in a slightly more elegant fashion from the A-pillar forwards.
Anyways, apparently it's going to be pushing around 340bhp using the 4.2L FSI V8. Obviously it'll use Quattro and yadda yadda and so on...looks like it'll be compared to the 335i. Kinda annoying how Audi's cars aren't really direct competitors to either standard or M/AMG models, but whatever. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161627

...again...take into account the lighting. It makes the car look bland. Or do you just not like it in general?

Somehow I don't think that the rear is finalized. At least I hope not. I think the faux diffuser needs to be a bit more accentuated, and the exhaust tips look a bit on the cheap side. Hopefully it'll end up looking a bit more like the S5's.

Wow. First picture of the B8 S4 and it's already bland to me.
Good job Audi! It needs... More aggressive wheels, larger fender flares, and a design that does't replicate the S5. |

What ever happened to the report that Audi would be going back to the F/I tt v6 setup for the next S4????? I think a stock 335i would still give this new N/A S4 major competition and a PROcede v2 335i would embarrass it.

From the side shot it looks like a Merc from the rear quarter forward.
Also, the rear end is weird. Looks like it is wearing low-cut jeanes, hip-huggers.

I remember reading this article before the 'Turbo' speculation's started to occur. It's a very old article. Anyway....I hope it's a turbo V6 |

I was just reading the thread, and apparently one guy says:

Many of the members on that board are also thinking that the car is going to go FI, not FSI.

Look at the date on that link to AZ, it is like a couple of month old. Audi still hasn't decided which way to go - to Supercharge it or to make it TT.

There seems to be that many engine options being mentioned in lots of websites that I doubt anyone really knows for sure. I personally hope it's a return to forced induction with a V6 engine, not only to give a real rival to the 335i but it's Audi heritage to use turbo engines in their sportie models, why try and compete with BMW with N/A engines when even here most people have more respect for that B5 S4 than their B6/7 v8 S4.
One thing I would like to show you about this new A4 chassis is how competitive it is. Check out this figures from SportAuto. German Sport Auto-Audi 3.2 Quattro test 0-100km/h: 6.0s and 0-200km/h:23.7s Weight: 1700kg(weight distribution 55.5% front, rear 44.5%) Hockenheim track time 1.18,0min(!) with Dunlop SP Maxx tires. A quote from the SportAuto was that this is the best balanced Audi outside of the R8 which means it's even better tha the RS4 and S5. That is a very competitive time when you consider it's only kicking out 265hp and not the 340hp that the S4 will be producing. P.S. Notice the tyres which were used, not the super sticky Michelins that BMW favour. |

The new S4 is supposed to be a 3.0L twin turbo V6 and will be slotted to compete more with the 335i than the M3. It should be similarly priced (just as the S5 competes with the E92 335i) and will be much more competitive than the 265 hp 3.2L A4.
Audi can do this because they still have an M3 fighter with the RS4. If it really is a twin turbo V6 I may be going back to Audi...even though I've seen a few B8 A4s running around locally and the body style isnt the greatest...
