Anyone go from F30 335i into the F80 M3 (or M4)?

Looking to hear opinions from those who went from a F30 335i into the M3 (or M4)?

I am currently in a well-optioned 2013 335i xDrive, has DHP, M-sport, some other cosmetic upgrades and JB Stage 1 tune.

For others who made a similar move - was it worth it? Is the F80 M3 enough of leap to warrant the additional expense?

Yes, absolutely. They're entirely different cars on almost every level.

I had a 2014 335xi with every option and the F80 is absolutely a superior car. I am extremely pleased with the upgrade.

Worth it, no question!

I think the gap between the M3 and 335 is much wider now for the F generation and than in the E generation.

Went from a 2014 335 to a 2014 435 and now I have the F80 M3. The additional expense on my part was a small increase of $73 so it was a no brainer for me. The car is absolutely well worth it and a ton of fun to drive. No matter the situation the car always turns heads and is unbelievably beautiful. If you have the coin and can afford to leap 100% do it.

Mine was about a $780 jump but I would still say it's 100% worth it.

I purchased my current car CPO with 12k miles on it for $41k. So, it'd be roughly $20-30k difference in price for the F80.

Obviously everyone's financial situations are different, but it's that $20k difference that I am trying to justify.

Thanks for the opinions everyone!

I had a 2014 F30. I absolutely loved it. It was my first BMW. At the time the F80 was not out, but it was announced. During the transition time, no M3's were available. Not to mention a 4 door M3 (2011).

My 335i was taken from me when BMWNA decided it was time to purchase it back due to the amount of times the electronic waste-gate failed. Turbo was replaced 3 times and they wanted to replace it a 4th time since limp-mode was a normality.

Once I had the check in hand, the dilemma of answering these two questions became real:
"Is it worth an additional 25k?"
"How can I justify this?"

After giving into my animalistic instincts, I can now answer the questions in retrospect.

Is the F80 worth an additional 25k, absolutely!
How can I justify another 25k, I can't!

After yesterday's "April 4th meetup" I can attest, the F80 is a car in a whole other league.

Driving through Malibu's canyons made me appreciate this vehicle's performance like no other previous experience.

It would be nice to have the additional 25k in the bank, but you only live once.

This is the exact dilemma I am facing, and your response is not what the fiscally responsible side of me wanted to hear. However, I change cars too often and part of me wants to be believe if that if had an M3, I could be content with it for 4-5yrs.

went exactly from your car to F80 m3 and let me tell u, its worlds apart. m3 feels so much more composed and in tune with the road. speed is not even a factor but its way faster. here is my F30 and F80 visual comparo

Bahn, my F30 is damn near identical to yours, except I have BSM. Otherwise similar wheels, Coral interior, performance lip, etc...

And...your F80 is the exact exterior spec I have built online. Oh my, so tempting!

I know posting this question would only make things more difficul

I have only heard one person discount the F8x. I was at an event last Septmber and he said his M4 wasn't very impressive and pretty much not much different then a 335i. It was heart breaking to hear and he said it in front of a table of Porsche guys.

I had e90 335i fbo, I also had a 3 weeks experience of f30 335i all sport/m package, and now (after 1M fbo) I came to the new M3.
335i is a good fast car. M3 is a good fast sport car. And if you like track days and fast driving you would like to have the M3 not 335i. If you need traffic light racing or 1/4, the xi would be good for you. All depends in what goals you are trying to reach.

Maybe he's that guy from the other thread wondering why his car is not fast but he is only pressing the throttle to 75% instead of wide open

Personally, I couldn't care less what other people think of my car. Highway pulls and track day fun will reveal the truth

I agree but you expect one of first owners to be excited and happy and I was like tell me about the car and he just shat on it. Lol. Now that I have seen all the positive press and the car I was like that guy just bought the wrong car.

It's true, the M3 and 335 are similar when driven gently around town and the interior is pretty much identical. It's too bad for that other owner if their usage pattern is so tame that they can't get past that to really see where the M3 shines.

Personally, I saw the dynos of 420whp stock and 119mph trap speeds with DCT, and the articles mentioned the # of radiators the 380mm front brake rotor size, lack of bushings in the rear suspension mounting, etc. I ignored all press and forum comments and ordered the car without a test drive.

4 door / 5 seats car for $60k before tax with those characteristics is a such a winner in my eyes and I don't see how people are paying close to that money to get a 435 or 335 instead.

My wife currently has a MW F30 335 (we've had it for 2 years now) and my F80 M3 is on the way back to the US from Euro Delivery so if you have any more detailed questions let me know!

I have a f30 335i with the PPK and m-perf suspension. I absolutely love the car and the way it drives. After the PPK the throttle response is crazy especially in sports mode. Yes the car loses that in-your-face pickup punch after about 70mph, but then I do most of my driving below that speed. The m-perf suspension is the other story. What a difference between the regular suspension and this one. The car seems so "on-rails" at least in street driving. If the suspension was any stiffer though I don't think I could have taken it (for a DD). I believe the M-PPK and the m-perf suspension are two very basic performance mods that anyone(interested in performing oriented driving) with a 335i should do.

I also changed out the tires.

The question I keep asking myself is how much better will the new m3 be than my modded 335i for spirited street driving.
