Pioneer AVH-X7500BT
Installed my new Pioneer AVH-X7500BT head unit, I love it! I got the two interfaces to keep all the BMW tones and steering wheel controls. Works great... Now my wife is calling me Bond, James Bond...

Did this completely replace the stock HU? This is my first BMW and I don't fully understand the CANBUS integration, but it seems like you almost have to keep the OEM HU. So with this new HU, everything works as it should? You would just need to put the OEM one back in if you had software flashed, or something?

Everything worksite OEM. The old HU is already sold and gone. No need to have it anymore.

Is there anything special that needs to be done to retain the tones and steering wheel controls? Or is it just a harness? Why don't more people replace the HU on these cars? I thought there was something weird about it.

The total kit with everything you need was $550.. I'm in the process of adding a VGA cable and cradle in place of the ashtray for the iphone ;-)

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209993...-Dash-Kit.html The AVH-X7500BT was just discontinued and the AVH-X7700BT took it's place.

I have similar set up, but went with the double din, AVH X5500BHS, on my 08' 128i. I had a local shop do the install but the memory does not work on it (radio restores to factory setting every time I start the car). I have a feeling it is not hooked up to a constant power source but they insist it is hooked up right. Did you do the install yourself?
Also, the shop that did my install used an annoying gong and the steering wheel controls dont work. Do you have a link of what you used to get the OEM gongs and steering wheel controls to work? Other than that I really like the radio. Does not look too aftermarket. |

If your steering wheel controls are not working and you have no notification sounds, clearly your installer did NOT know what he was doing. What you need is listed below in order to get those things working like factory.
Notification sounds; Axxess BMRC-01 Wiring interface Steering wheel controls; Axxess ASWC-1 Steering wheel control adapter I got all these things from Crutchfield, they may be a bit more expensive but the support is the best bar none. Quote:
