Cayman lease rates/help with new car?

Hey everyone,

My lease for the 05 X5 is up in march, and I'm in the market for a new car.

I have a great deal on it, 630 a month with premium pack, navi and xenons, and i'd like to stay somewhat in that price range with my next car (i'll push the limit to 800-850/mo MAX).

I have to major priorities: a car that is FUN to drive that comes with a lot of techno goodies in it. In our family we've got a 335 vert and a 7, and the whole idrive incorporation is so much fun to play with!

So here's the thing. I don't want a new X5 because both engines are going to be replaced in the next year, the V8 is too expensive and the 3.0 is too slow (about the same as my X5 and I'm looking for an upgrade).

As for the X6, I'm afraid it's going to be too expensive. I expect the lease rates for the 3.0tt to be upwards of 900/mo decently equipped when it comes out if not more.

So what do you guys think will be good for me?

My friend has a cayman with little options at 800/mo, she got the car right when it came out. Does anyone know what the lease rates for this car are like right now? Is the normal Cayman fun to drive or is the S the only one worth it?

Any other cars you can think of?

Thanks

by the way, I'm also highly considering extending my lease for another year as it looks like there isn't much out there that suits me right now... just looking for some advice to point me in some directions

I would never pay $800-850 to lease anything. At those payments I might as well consider buying the car. But if you really want to lease there are a coupe of $800-ish payments out there. They require that you put a few grand down for cap cost reduction though.

I have a buddy who bought the Cayman - it's Ehh and VERY small inside. I would take the 335 coupe over the Cayman. The new Audi S5 is sick too, but it's brand new and the lease payments aren't cheap.

very helpful!

Buying cars is out of the question.

The M Coupe sounds like it would be SO much fun, although it lacks in the tech of newer BMW's... I think the Z4 is now the most outdated in the line up in terms of that. Also it's not available in SMG which would make the decision a lot easier.

Not always, and in the case of cars with attractive lease deals, not even usually.

Porsches leases of the cayman are not so bad....but expect to put down 5000
and due at signing will be around 7000. Porsche justs had a special...check there web site to see if its still there.

Porsche leases are notorious for huge down payments.

I don't think so, not for premium brands, consider depreciation factor, and how many people are willing to buy this brand after the factory warranty is over? and trying to trade it in at a dealer is even worse. leasing a Honda Accord doesn't make sense, but Porsche? I would lease it, drive it like you stole it, and then return it and get another one.

So let's pay a ton of money then end up with nothing? Not a good call. Unless you change cars like underwear it's better financially to buy 95% of the time.

True if you pay cash for your cars, reality is very few people are able to do so, and when you finance, you are not the one owning the car, it's your lien holder, so if you finance for Avg 5 years, you don't own the car until your last payment, most people would change their cars before that anyway. so you need to keep your car more than 5 years to see a big difference, at that time you need to face the fact that you pay repairs out of your own pocket, and still, one major repair can make you pay the money you saved.
the difference is when the dealer gets the leased car back, they fix for almost nothing, $500 to $1000 to certify it, and sell it for big$$$, as an owner, you can't do that. the only disadvantage of lease is the mileage, so if you drive a lot, then buy, and if you can pay cash or finance and pay off within a year or 2 also buy. finance an expensive car for 60 or 72 months, it's not worth it.

It is financially beneficial lease for some people and to buy for others. I change cars a lot so I should lease but I can't for the life of me drive under 20K a year... so I buy anyway

Hey guys so here's the update: I can't release my car, they want an extra $270 a month to do so, those bastards.

I think I've narrowed it down to the 335, X5 and X6. If the X6 starts at the same price as the X5 (as it does in the UK) it still seems feasible with my budget, if not, I think I'm leaning mostly towards the 335... the looks of the X5 are growing more and more unappealing to me since seeing the X6... I'm just blinded by all those black bumpers!

What do you guys think, should I be looking at other brands? Will the twin turbo X5 come around the same time as the X6 or is it most likely going to be another year for that?

p.s. I don't want to pay over 800 anymore

ANY INPUT HELPS! thanks

Get a loan, and buy a Used Cayman S. Don't take the deprecation hit.

Thanks but the Cayman isn't one of my choices anymore, and I'm not looking to get a used car or even buy a car, I'm 100% set on leasing.

I agree with most of this. When I say buy a car I mean actually buy it, not finance it. If you have the money to buy a BMW/Porsche and up, you should not need to finance or you cannot afford the car. The ONLY debt you should ever incur in your life are college loans if you don't have well off parents/grandparents and a mortgage on your first home. Even then make sure it's low interest FAFSA or whatever for college and fixed rate 15 year on the house or you cannot afford that house.

First class, no offense, but you must live in a parrallel universe to this one (or have one Hell of a high paying job and only turn on heat in the room you're in to save even more money).
