Lack of steering response caused by electric steering assistance?
I recently changed my ride from E90 320d to E61 LCI 520d M-sport. I must say I was rather dissapointed when I discovered the lack of steering response in my new ride.
Driving the E90, I always did with a smile on my face, but my experience so far in my E61 is that it's not as envolving. I should add that I'm driving on winter tires now (245/40-18), but still I expeced more agility and responsivness than is the case. Is this because of the change from hydraulic to electric steering assistance in the bimmers? Anyone with the same experience? The car is for sure more confortable and relaxing then the E90, but I still expected more feedback from the steering wheel than is the case. So much for the "Efficient driving dynamics"... |

My car is without active steering. I have tested active steering and it is good in many respects. Still I prefer the direct and responsive steering the E90 had. I believe electric steering assistance is to blame.
I agree that 530d is a better alternative than 520d, but paying 30' USD for the extra power is more than I'm willing to pay to the government. The 520d is actually well suited for driving in Norway. The torque is adequate for the car, specially with the Hartge chip installed, and the lighter car is easier to take arround the bends. Still, I would go for the 535 if the government was more reasonable with the taxation for cars. |
