That is always a possibility and if they discover anything else once they remove the bumper the adjuster will simply need to return and verify what is needed.

Hate to see it!

Consideration for the PPF as it looks like replacement and paint will be needed. Ensure you give ample cure time before applying the PPF. General rule of thumb I've heard is 30 days.

I make it a point to park as far away from others as possible, just for this very reason. Or if she's just going to run in, then I wait in the car.

One of my less functional relatives drives an old dually pickup truck and specifically looks for nice cars parked alone and parks next to them. He's done this for yers and still thinks it's the funniest thing ever.

So, there's no airtight strategy against morons.

My father did the same thing to a co-worker who bought a new car and parked far away alone. He parked so close to it, the co-worker couldn't get in the driver's door. After a few days of this the co-worker hid to see which asshole was doing this and caught my dad in the act!

I guess it's funnier when it's someone you know versus doing it to strangers.

I know!😭 I gave it a 2nd thought but then went against my better judgement and the odds kicked in unfortunately for me.

Hopefully repairs are “streamline”

Lol man yeah funny but definitely would be pissed at the same time. Im usually good with parking away but this time got the better of me with it being an empty parking lot basically when the mall first opened.

I already opened the claim with Allstate earlier and have to wait for the next business day to chat with the adjuster.

This is my first bmw but not first time needing to get something fixed on a car.

99.99% certain the full front will need to be replaced and I also had PPF. The guy already admitted and knew he is at fault.

I will only be going through bmw to get it fixed but anything I should be on the lookout for? I’m also worried about this going on the carfax, anything I can do about that or also get further compensation because of diminished value?

Any input is greatly appreciated.
i may be mistaken but going through insurance and a bmw dealership it will reflect on the carfax.

Watch the headlight enclosure for fogging after the repair. If it fogs or even gets hazy, it’s got a hairline stress crack and should’ve been replaced by insurance. I read somewhere BMW get $3-5k for the adaptive LED enclosure and you don’t wanna be on the hook for that!

I unfortunately went through this last summer on my Porsche 718 (and also had PPF, and it damaged the headlight). My overall repair bill was close to 14k. Unfortunately the driver was uninsured, so it went through my insurance. My advice is pick a great shop, and then I used a company that specializes in diminished value claims. One benefit is that this person has insurance, so they will likely cover the PPF fully (I had a limit of 2k on my own policy) and then i filed a diminished value claim on my vehicle (I received ~7k in diminished value). You’ll need to do some negotiating for the DV claim though. The DV company i used charged ~500 to do their assessment (which is done after your shop does their tear down) but usually your shop will know the DV people well and have someone they work with.

On the PPF being covered by insurance, I've had my own insurance, State Farm, cover it twice. I had PPF put on the headlight lenses of two of my cars. The claim was made under comprehensive because of deer strikes.

With OEM parts, working with a good body shop will produce the best results. I have a preferred body shop that has successfully gotten insurance to pay for OEM parts for most things that needed to be replaced. Only part from what I recall that wasn't OEM was an A/C condenser coil which I was ok with. This body shop knows the procedure and how to submit justification on getting new OEM parts.

An alternative to going to a bodyshop like this and then they have to fight with an insurance company on using OEM parts is to take your vehicle to a BMW dealer's body shop where they advertise that they only use OEM parts.

The body shop I use didn't have any appreciable extended time in going through the justification process in getting OEM parts approved. Another thing going to my preferred body shop is they work with all major insurance companies and is on their list of preferred shops. What this means is typically no need for a claims adjuster to go visit the shop to visually inspect any supplements or justifications for OEM parts as the insurance company will just take their word for it. I don't know if any BMW dealership's body shop are a preferred shop for insurance companies.

Wondering why your car isnt as far in as the others in the row? BMW has its own certified body shops in some areas at least they used to.
