I think i got a lemon paint

I saw today that the paint in the front and back bumper do not match exactly the same color to the body panels of the car, any one knows if I got a lemon car in terms of paint? Is this normal?
body panel looks blue but the bumper looks more like light bluish purple. This is a Tanzanite Blue M4 G82 new!
Thank you guys.

That's horrible. I'm guessing body work done at port, with a bad job at paint matching? Doesn't even look like the same level of "speckly sparkles." I don't know the technical term. Curious what others might recommend to resolve, because I would be pissed.

Completely agree, something is definitely not right there. Does it look worse in the sun light?

Oh man, I feel for you. I’d be so mad, firstly for not being told of the damage, secondly of what you’re going to have to go through to get it right. If it is in fact what it seems.

I would pick up a Paint Thickness Meter and test the surfaces and if what everyone thinks is correct you will have ammunition to have a talk with your dealer. Sorry this happened. We all get so excited to play with our new toys that we forget the importance of a through inspection. Don't feel bad we have all done it.

What is generally not revealed is that at the port of entry, cars are checked for damage and in a case like this, the damaged part is repainted. If you bought this new, that is a possibility. If you bought it used, it is likely that the bumper was repainted by previous owner.

How to know if it was repainted?

Had to repainted to fade to different colors. If you bought it new have the dealer fix it. If you bought it used you will have to pay a body shop to fix it.

It is just a question of who and when it was re-painted as to what your options are.

The paint can look a little different purely because it was laid on a plastic bumper versus metal body panel.

It wouldn't be conclusive to say that the bumper was resprayed a later point just by looking at it.

Ultimately, a plastic part like a bumper isn't that important whereas the metal body parts are.

Matching paint is a art, especially metallics.
The easier part is color match, repair would be likely a factory pack (same paint as BMW factory, BASF I suspect.)
The harder is to match metallic. Many things control how the metallic's lay. Thinner, pressure, gun set up, painter choice of distance and pattern/overlap, temperature. Like I said it's an art.
Third is match is texture (orange peal)
My shop did dealer work for the local Mercedes dealer in the 70's. I still have nightmares about matching Astral Silver Metallic

So between a paint thickness meter and a hand held sun light you should be able to tell what was painted.

IMO I always prefer to paint as little as possible as I have never felt that after market paints are not as durable as factory applied paint. (many a painter bar argument has started over that. It is common to blend paint on adjacent panels to fool the eye. Only you can decide if that is acceptable to you when you repair. Good luck

Maybe it's just me but to me the reason why your picture shows such a difference is that your beam of light is on the top part and not he bottom. And well metallic paint kind of does that under bright lights.

Like if you look at the corner section where it meets the taillight, you can see with no light it looks pretty close?

This is the correct answer. BMW paint doesn’t match great between metal and plastic panels. I was going to do Macau Blue but pics of it on a G80 showed a huge variation between the panels. I asked my contact at BMW Individual about this and they said if something like that would bother me, avoid certain colors (Macau Blue being one of them).

Hey we were those "dirty greasy paint techs" and we worked on cars a hell of a lot more expensive and faster that any street BMW's.
