I added the factory passenger side mirror to my 1980 MK1 VW Rabbit. The pre-threaded screw holes to mount it were already in the door and covered with plastic pop-out caps, IIRC. I found the mirror on a wrecked VW Dasher in a junkyard, and it was apparently the same as the Mk1 Rabbit. Side-view mirrors in those days didn't have electric or manual adjusters inside the car, so they were simple to add but required walking around the car to adjust them. How did we survive?????
Walking around still required for my 02 pickup

cmyx6go I'm a little late to the party here, but I understand your dilema. About a year ago I figured, well let's just give Apple Music a go, as I was tired of flipping thru Sirius all the time to find a song I wanted to listen to. To me, the cool thing about Apple music is I can just download an entire album, and listen to it as originally intended. Give it a try, you may find it enojyable as well! I still have SiriusXM, but rarely listen to it.

I’m not sure if I should get off your lawn, or if I just don’t know what that means. My first car was a 1973 Ford LTD.

LOL...not until the decade of the 60's did manufacturers ditch grounding the positive (+) side of the battery. Your '73 LTD and all cars today have the negative battery terminal grounded. Today that sounds so foreign to younger generations...not chasing you off the lawn.

A neighbor here has a late 1940's car, and the repair shop that did a restoration on it hooked up the 6-volt battery "backwards" with the negative terminal grounded. At least they didn't put in a 12-volt battery and fry all of the light bulbs.....

Brain freeze. When I'm trying to remember something I say I need to wait until the needle in my brain hits that spot on the record. It's taking longer and longer.....

All I know is I'm starting to put things somewhere very safe…

That I can't even find them.

We're thinking of booking The Home Edit team to sort out my study.

I've long had the problem of forgetting someone's name just as I'm about to say it. It'll be in my brain right up until my brain sends the signal to my mouth to speak, then it's gone. Sometimes I can't bring up the name of someone I've known for years and see all the time. It's so frustrating. But lately it happens with more than names. Common words now just disappear from my RAM. I know the word is there on my hard drive somewhere, but it takes a while before my ancient 5400RPM spinning disk brain can pull it up.

I had emergency surgery about 11 years ago. Ever since then, I can never remember the word anesthesia. I know it, but as soon as I get to the word, it leaves my brain. I'll also lose random words mid sentence.

Don't even get me started on names.... I just call everyone sweetie, honey, or whatever so I don't have to remember. Obviously this is not always appropriate.

The 1958 VW Micro Bus I learned to drive in didn't have synchromesh on 1st gear. Dad taught me how to double-clutch. Later, I drove his Crosley with 3-speed crash box (no synchromesh on any gear). You had to double-clutch all shifts, up or down.

Ok. First I have to tease you that I'm thinking WTF, how is this thread still alive???? Only you can start a thread and have it take on a life of its own to last months and years. Secondly, see my PM as I have a suggestion for you that might help.

When you get to be as old as we are, you'll understand how every day you have more to add to this thread. And yes, it's almost at 2,000,000 views.

How are you, Alpine? You only crawl out of the woodwork every now and then.

BTW, I don't have a pm from you.

EDIT - Received.

I know. While I'm not the age of this group, I'm not that far off either and I see how this thread has lived on this long. I'm good and busy (contrary to popular belief, the life of a lawyer is busier post-pandemic than before the pandemic….if we can even call this time "post-pandemic") and that is why I pop out of the woodwork only occasionally. Hope all is well with you too.

You know you're old when every time you post on the thread "it's a good day because" it relates to recovering from an injury.

..because we all forget what's already been posted and re-post the same things over and over!

I received an emergency phone call from work at 2:00 AM Tuesday morning. Their emergency call tree list for this issue was 15 years obsolete, and for the life of me I could not remember the current name of the company that they needed to call and open a trouble ticket with! I knew the name of their install tech from 1989, but not who bought their company up in 2004.

Only mentioning this because I just went through my work email to look it up, because this thread made me remember that I forgot to look it up yesterday.

Get off my lawn, kid!!!!!

A song that you loved listening to in high school, which was new at that time, comes on on the classic rock station. This happened to me today while I was on my lunch break.
