1984 733i 5-speed manual
I bought it new as a fortress to deal with a screaming baby at home, a terrible job and a worse commute over a bridge. I could roll up the windows and have my only quiet time of the day. This was before cell phones. Unfortunately, the electronics were flaky. Computers were less refined and civilized than they are now. I had warning lights of every sort coming on all the time. I only kept the car 2 years. During that time, I went through 5 cruise control modules and at least 10 extra trips to the dealer. I had 3 or 4 CEL experiences, brake sensors, bulb sensors, etc. A friend was driving a big Jaguar and his car (with all the things made by Lucas, the prince of darkness) was more reliable than mine. That started my 10-year run with Toyotas and Hondas. They were considered boring, but to me, that meant every time I turned them on they started and went where I wanted. After the electronics got more mature, I switched back. |

My first interaction with any BMW was with my ex’s 325i circa 1998 iirc. I remember how her car was really nice compared to my Honda Civic hatch on Dayton’s.
Finally, in 2007, got around to owning one... a Steel Gray 2001 325ci. Loved that thing. Flew to So. Cal, got a taxi to Malibu, and finalized the deal. Drove home with the largest smile on my face. Wife called it the 17k smile. Sadly got into an accident with that one. But have been a BMW owner ever since 2007.. about 12 vehicles in total over the years. |

E36 M3, White with a tan interior. I remember the night I brought it home, I kept walking into the garage to look at it. I almost couldn’t believe there was an M3 in my garage and it was mine! It was my first German car after a long line of Japanese cars, mostly Honda and Nissan. While it certainly wasn’t fast by today’s standards, it was plenty quick and led me to my first track events.

I’ll post again just for the heck of it since it’s buried early in this thread. 1987 528e from late 1996 till late 2012. Kept it all that time for the sentimental value.

This is my first BMW, an Interlagos blue '08 E92 with 73k miles (at purchase time, I've since logged 4k miles on top of that since June). I've done TBAs, rod bearings, and a DCT reseal so I should be good to go for future track days once covid is solved. I've had a great time so far with a TOTD trip and a few BMW CCA rides.
I've really enjoyed the socially distanced BMW CCA cruises, even made it into the magazine this month! Kinda eyeing the new G82, but I'll ride this one for a long while. |

First was a Champagne 88 750IL. I only lowered the front because the back was already low. I had knock off Racing Dynamics 17" wheels, with a muffler delete and DTM exhaust tips. Funny I saw my car with the last 3 different owners. 1st The person I sold it to. 2nd Was near church and 3rd at a gas station. Good conversations with all.
My second is white 97 528i. I had staggered Alpina 19" knock offs with deep dish. H&R springs. OEM Euro Angel eyes. Changed out all amber reflectors to clear. Knock off rear signal lights with the clear signals that look like the 00 LED version. My third is white 2014 640i Gran Coupe M sport (52k miles) which I just bought and arrives next week. Already bought some upgrades before receiving the car lol. |

My first, Kashmere Beige Metallic 1991 E30 325i. It was an automatic that I bought with only 50k miles on it back in 2000. It had a cloth interior that I wish we could still get. I'd still have it today if I didn't get rear ended at 146k. Barely gave me trouble for those 6 years.

My first BMW was also my first car, purchased 1997 and driven as my only car through 2014. E30 - 1987 325, cinnabar red with venetian beige (0206) interior. I was the second owner; the first had kept every single piece of paperwork for serivce, etc., since the car was purchased. About 75k miles when I purchased it. $2500. Lots of memories in that machine and I put probably 300,000+ miles on it...

My first BMW was a 1987 535is. It was 1996 and I was just out of college with an Engineering degree. Owned a Miata and was married and wanted to add a fun family car. The car was a dark blue with tan leather.
Two memories. Installed UUC short shift kit, lowering springs and new shocks but can't remember whos, aftermarket cat back exhaust which really sounded great and got rid of the OE metric wheels and installed the TSW Hockenheim R wheels with the blue trim rings. Car really looked great. Second memory was a no start condition. Couldn't for the life of me figure it out. Was suspecting the position sensor that read the position of the flywheel. Borrowed an Osilloscope from work, brought it home and cranked it over and was able to see the output where back then the cheaper Fluke meters would average too much so you couldn't really see what was going on. Felt like I was being high tech at the time. Simple sensor swap out and she started right up after probably two weeks of chasing it. Ended up selling her with around 150k miles to a BMW technician at redline motorsports in Pompano Beach FL. Always wonder if she is still around. I love the looks of the E28 5 series. When you see them today they look small even next to a more modern 4 door 3 series. |

After owning six Audis, the last two being S6s, I finally bought my first BMW, the 2021 M550i.
Within two weeks, I had a 30% ceramic tint applied to the side and rear windscreen. I applied two coats of graphene coating to the paint which really brought out the shine and added 4-5 years of paint protection. Loving it after two months of ownership. Regards, Bud

Hard to follow that Bud, but here I go ...2 weeks owner of a 640D GC, I love the thing already, have some a lot of plans for the near future and I'll be sure to post some pics on here.
I'd like to ask you boys, are you alright with us Londoners posting on here? I've joined the forum upon finding UK made posts, I'm actually looking for a good garage around London and some advice from someone around here, if I got lost please someone redirect me to the uk fan-base? |
