I've been looking at both Porsche's and GT350's off and on for the last few months. I could afford a GT350 but if I got a porsche, I'd feel like I'd end up eventually wanting to get into a GT3 which is just not feasible for me right now or in the foreseeable future anyways.
Think as regulations grow more strict and the EV's continue to dominate, the GT350 will be highly sought after in the years to come. Hell California is already implementing the ban of ICE engines. The engine in the GT350 is one of the best on the market and can be had at a fraction of the Porsche's. My guess is in 2-3 years the GT350 will be worth more than it was brand new (lower mileage models anyways). I'd love to drive a 15/16 GTS as that was the last NA for that gen. With porsche you need to make sure it has all the right options which can be appealing to some but with the GT350 you know what you're getting right outta the box

Even with the best exhaust offered for the 911 he is interested in, it will never sound as good as the 350. Its not hard to add power to cars with power adders.

Having experienced a significant amount of exhausts in different cars, both mine and at races, I have to disagree 100%. You can damn near, if not all the way, make any car sound like anything, depending on what you do with the headers and exhaust as a system. There's two extremely similar 718s that race autoX where I live, one sounds fairly sedate, the other one with an aftermarket exhaust sounds like the other loudest car at autoX, a Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. When both of those launch, it is like the space shuttle taking off and they sound like nothing else. There are some other loud Camaros, Mustangs, V8 cars, etc., but nothing sounds like those two and they sound good.

You say you’re bored and I saw mention of a Tacoma. Are you in a position to add to the stable and keep the F80? Not saying it has to be a Tacoma, but something to get you into a different genre. Sounds like you’d regret letting the F80 loose. Nothing scratches a boredom itch better than multiple sticks.

I’ve had a 991S with race headers and AWE exhaust. The sound is insane and extremely loud. I had to go back to stock headers because it was too loud for street driving, and I like loud. It was louder than my catless e92 with Eisenmann race exhaust. GT350 sounds great too.

I recently purchased a 2017 911 (991.2).
When I was doing research, I contemplated getting an NA 991, but was immediately looking how to get more power (RR Racing makes a supercharger for $13K+ installation). So, knowing that, I just added the price of the supercharger to the base of the car and went with a newer car that can easily be tuned to about 500Hp. I just installed the Soul headers and sport cats. The car sounds VERY good with the stock sport muffler. To me, it sounds like an old air cooled car since there is a restriction in the exhaust with the turbos. As others have said, if you get bored, you can go crazy and do hybrid turbos, IC and tuning to get well over 650rwhp. Tyler from APR has this setup on his PDK car and it runs 9.9 seconds in the quarter mile! There is nothing boring about this car. It cruises nicely when I want it to and is a complete hoonigan when I want it to be. It's the best of both worlds. The chassis is so stiff and feels really progressive. My car is manual as well. I have narrow feet, so Rennline pedals were installed the day after I got it, plus I have a Numeric shifter/cables, which takes the driving experience to the next level as far as I'm concerned (like your CAI shifter). I know that some of us on here are looking at '15 or '16 GTS cars to get the NA engine. Look around, you might be able to get into an early 991 GT3 for a similar price. They're coming in around $100K now. If you do go look at/drive a GT350, I'd suggest a 2019 or 2020 when the did the redesign on the suspension. It's supposed to be a game changer for the car. All this being said, I just think you're in a funk. You've had the car for a while and have it heavily modded (any stock car to you will probably be boring at this time). I say, get out and drive and enjoy your car. I know it's hard to do and can see where you're coming from. I too had a heavily modified 330 that I just grew tired of (owned it for 9 years). The second I got its replacement (GTI), the modding started all over again.

Here's the problem, car guys like us will never be satisfied. Getting bored just enables us to enjoy the hunt for a new car. It's not that we are bored, we just love to hunt. It why tribal leaders have multiple women. I too get the itch to get a new car every 14-16 months. It's one reason why I now assume leases that have 16mo left. It gives me enough time to enjoy the car, and if I really like it, like I do with my F80, I but it at the end of the lease. I do have a third car in the family that we use to transport and carpool the kids. When I start to feel the itch, I'll just use the SUV for two weeks, I won't even look at the F80, and then when I drive it again it's like a new car to me. I've also rented convertible Mustangs and Corvettes for a weekend just to have some fun.
I also stopped modding my cars about five years ago, except for things like wheels and aero parts. But unfortunately I decided to become a boat owner again after 20yrs of not having one, so that's where my money has gone the past three months.

for a pure pleasure car it is a bit of a tough call...but I say go NA all the way
going NA from the M3 will give you a much more different experience with throttle response and sound as for which one, if you value smallish cars and refinement and want some low end torque (the gt350 really pales in this area), then I say 991.1 S all the way...they are levelling out in values and maybe even be starting to appreciate if you want a more apples to apples comparision, go for a 981 S or GTS, initial cost will be similar to the GT350 and it will hold its value just as well... I had 2 and after my first considered a 991.1S, I found the 981S to actually be a more enjoyable drive with its more compact size and the engine right behind you |

There is a difference between "loud" and "sounds good".
