The engine that is in all modern mclarens was designed by Ricardo. Who got the engine blueprint from Nissan and their VRH engine from the Nissan r390.

Sport Auto will run the 720S on Trofeos shortly, so that gap should close considerably. Just like you were singing the 991.2 Turbo S's praises until I proved to you that the M8 kicked its ass on several tracks. Not a single manufacturer cares as much, or dedicates as much resources, to 'Ring times as Porsche. Let's have a bet on that 6:50 time you're quoting for the 992 Turbo S. M8 in the real world is making well over 700 (based on the 660 WHP dyno) so it should be WAY faster than it actually is based on its power to weight. On top of that the M8 competition ran a 7:29 on the Ring which is slower than a now generation old 991.2 Carrera S, LOL! The 991 turbo S is 12 seconds faster there btw. I think the same thing too and then I look at Porsche and besides wing size and a vent in the side, they all look pretty much the same, haha.
This new McLaren looks awesome to me. I just don't know if I am a McLaren guy (if I had to pick between a McLaren or similarly priced car) If they made these a three seater like the McLaren F1, I think it would instantly be my favorite supercar. That cheesy thing to me is like cup holders to soccer moms. |

This revised engine produces around 650 PS; 641 bhp (478 kW) at 6800 rpm. The engine was also used in the 1998 Courage Compétition C51[2] Nissan at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans. Both cars retired. The design of the engine was later sold to McLaren Automotive where it formed the basis of their M838T family of engines. McLaren bought the rights to the Tom Walkinshaw Racing developed engine, itself based on the Nissan VRH engine architecture,[2] which was designed for the IRL Indycar championship but never raced. However, other than the 93 mm (3.66 in) bore, little of that engine remains in the M838T.[3] In only 18 months, Ricardo went from a clean sheet of paper to a running prototype. The McLaren M838T engine is a 3.8-litre (3,799 cc) 90 degree twin-turbocharged flat-plane V8, designed and developed in collaboration with Ricardo plc. |
