18 year olds are stupid. we have all been there and we all were stupid. Maturity comes with age. Good for you for being mature.

poor car. didn't read the article but hopefully he's okay and he learned.

This.

I agree with Shakira too, but we have this tradition with my friends, "a party to those all of us who got divorced this year!" would be a close enough translation.

We get wild (or really not so much but there is no need to emphasize how pathetic we are). Totally out of control wild! Were all pushing 40 by now so since this year was the first one that needed this tradition to be awakened, we got our epic piece of shit rally toy out, spent hours on making it to start, grilled sausages, got drunk with a six pack, and then we called a taxi to drive us around our former track for us for once before we went home.

We all agreed, that was the wisest shit we've done together ever but also that if we had had the money we have today, no way would we be alive.

I'm sure there are responsible ferrari owners that are not 20, but they drive theirs like it's a Prius. My dad used the phrase "I forbid you" with me only once, and that was 20 seconds after he tried to teach me how to drive when I was 13. The exact words were I forbid you from driving anything on any public road until you realize you're a mortal at the sandpits.

I'm sure I have no use for a ferrari ever, if not a sandpit is involved.

And thank god I grew up before camera phone time.

I drive everything like a shit head, more so if I was 18 in a Ferrari. Sad to see it broken, but far from surprised.

Why sad? Milk would've been damaged in that accident!!

Manufacturers really should pay attention to things that matter more.

Btw, we're still doing Detroit next summer in an orderly fashion?

The funny thing is, when you're 65 years old the same thing might come out of your mouth about being "40 and dumb" or however old you are. Its not just about your age. Its from his lack of judgement and common sense. For most, they need time to get this (this is why you guys think every 18 year old sucks at driving). Others, not so much. I know 30 some year old guys who i would never let drive my car (over 500whp) and other 20 year olds who i would trust all day long. What do you drive? A C300 4 matic? Cmon man lol

Ditto. I did some stupid shit when I was 18. It was stupid then and it's stupid now looking back. And yep, there are some stupid-ass kids nowadays thinking they know more than the "uptight" adults telling them how stupid they are. Guess what? My stupidity at your age and your stupidity are not mutually exclusive.

Come on man, it doesn't take 500whp to kill people. You can kill a crowd of people with a toyota yaris. This is about restraint, not driving skill.

so okay, it actually does come to skills. My country has no cops basically, so our driving school is learning one sentence (every day for a month taught by a professional teacher who at any time pulls your handbrake and you're not seeing the test until you can control the fuck up.

Now, why we all let people drive without proper training, that's a very good question we all should think an answer to.

Ok, I agree that everyone should be properly trained, but my point was that it doesn't matter if it's a 100hp car or a 500ph car, you can drive recklessly in either. BUT, if you have restraint, you can drive a 500hp car even if you don't know how to recover from oversteer if you simply stay close to the speed limit and don't drive around like you are racing. It's possible to drive a 500hp car at a reasonable speed. On the flip side, just because some 20yr old drives a 500hp car on the track and knows how to do high speed drifts doesn't mean they are automatically safer drivers than the soccer mom juggling a coffee cup and a steering wheel. The situations that lead to speed related skills by someone in a supercar isn't from a lack of skill, it's from a lack of restraint.

Infamous case in point: Paul Walker's death. The driver had experience on the track. And you can say that it was a mechanical fault of the Porsche etc etc, but in the end, that accident wouldn't have happened at the speed limit.

No clue who Paul walker is, but I've done two years of school runs there in the states, and I've driven through the states four times. The school zone is the most dangerous place to be at, makeup and coffee is apparently very safe since you're driving slowly while applying/inhaling.

With your point on hp, I agree. Sadly the stopping power of a stock 500hp car is a bit different than the one of a clio. Now go and share my words in any forum, and we go back to tuning.

I drive for fun, and that's why I love brakes. It makes the horses fly, since I know I can stop them.

Things that go well with youth and alcohol, stupidity and immortality are the answers. At this age, I actually do know the difference of living and well, a crash

A pall of mine is a driving instructor here , has been one for 20 years. It takes track training, some rally, some highway and some traffic lessons to get a license here, and two years of your life. He says, he hasn't had a pupil who didn't know how to drive a manual in all that time he's been giving lessons, but the handy parking brake apparently breaks our egos easier than his rough language.

But if someone would tell our grandmas to slow the fuck down, I'd be happy. The given speed limit is not what you have to drive at any conditions you speeding old bone bags who take over me daily!!!

And I've had more powerful cars in my time. That's not the point. The point is the Ferrari in the picture. I know this street. I was there two days ago after this accident happened. In order to cause that much damage to that car, the kid had to be flying way beyond any reasonable speed. Ergo, he's an idiot who couldn't control the car when his lack of common sense took over. I don't blame it entirely on the fact he's 18 because, as you say, there are 40 y.o. people who wreck cars for the same reason. But in the U of I area there are more than a few kids his age driving supercars that Dad bought them when he sent them off to school. In my 12 years at the U of I, I witnessed plenty of these kids doing really stupid things in these cars, mostly involving absurd speeds on narrow/crowded streets. It's not guaranteed that every 18 y.o. kid with a fast car will do dumb things and/or drive beyond his abilities, but it's pretty safe bet most will at one time or another

Would I have liked to own a more powerful car when I was 18? Sure. Although looking back at the stupid things I did, I'm glad I didn't own one.

Here lies stupid on a tomb stone really makes being worm food sting.

And I agree with you again. Here it's easy to race safely, and since on our tracks (the amateur ones), you're pushing, fixing and getting the shit weekly, you at some point learn the right time for showing off.

Or not, but then maggots get a dinner.

Some of us happen to life F cars and get upset when one gets hurt! Just like the beloved P cars also. Besides..., from where the picture was taken, I bet it wouldn't have even been milk in a bag, probably one of those shitty cartons that never open properly.

I'll be there, it's already predetermined.

I picture you just sucking milk right from the utters to get milk from it's most natural form.

You're new shirt sucks. It doesn't say Lions on it, and it's green. Green is the color of money, and money is the root of all evil. Trees have roots, so trees are evil. That shirt is evil.

While there are always exceptions in every generalization pertaining to a group of people, there's a reason insurance rates are higher for young drivers (read 18 year olds) and especially if they're male. If you really want to see the stats the insurance companies collect on drivers in action, get an estimate on how much it costs for same said 18 year old with a sport bike.

Although I do agree training for driver's in the US is a total joke. Whether this will affect the number of at fault crashes, well, I don't think we'll ever know as the pervasive attitude about getting a driver's license is more right than privilege.

Argument won.

Yeah but cows are black and white. But not everything in the world is black and white, sometimes things are grey. Gandalf from LOTR had grey hair. Gandalf also carried a staff. A staff is also a term for a group of people assigned to certain tasks.

So this means cows are just peasants staffed by a single person that eventually just get cut up into bacon wrapped filet mignon.

Game point. Ax. I win.
