Congrats on the move and also doing the right thing and giving two weeks. They'll be the longest two weeks of your life, as you count the seconds...

I appreciate all the positive comments!

While I will be making a smaller salary, the new job includes a profit share on top of the base salary.

My goal is to meet or exceed the salary I was offered at my old job in 2 years.

There's more to life than just money. If he went from $1.2 Million, to $1 Million, would you be aghast? It is all about the effect of the money v. the effect of the stress.

Swimming pools

My previous role was I was the lead designer which means I did all the initial proposal designs, dealt with HOA, city permitting, and than made all the construction plans. worked for a high volume builder so it was overwhelming for one person.

New company is much smaller but we do residential and commercial. The lower volume allows me to go to job sites help over see jobs as well and Im now getting to learn about the commercial side of the business. Im one of those people that always like learning and trying new things. Helps keep me from getting bored I think.

I applaud you! Gutsy, even if you already had the next position in your back pocket. In a world where material success and fame are the currency of the day, to take less $$ in order to feed your soul takes balls, man.

I raised both my daughters using the philosophies of Joseph Campbell- Follow your bliss. Both of them walked from jobs that paid very well but made them hate that drive to work. Huge drops in pay and 180 degrees from their university degrees, but happy beyond measure and ... the money is following them because their happiness in their work makes them stars at what they do.

Well Done. You will never regret it.

Was looking at a CEOs compensation once and saw his salary go down like 66%. He went from like $3m to $1m. At that point, I think money is the last thing he cared about and the job was more than a money machine for him.

These do what you love for a living ideals are always rosey and delightful, but when I see articles about finances being one of the largest stresses on relationships, it makes me think I should have gone to collage.

Wow you had a cool job and probably great high pay. However, I agree with you and I have been in your place before but it was even worse for me where the pay was really low as well
