Arrow 991 Carrera S - Launch Control to 100 mph

Hi guys,

here is a short demonstration of the launch control in the current 991 Carrera S with Sports Chrono package and PDK. It's a fun car for sure!

Ya Porsches have a lot of traction and tons of grip, hence they usually launch at higher RPMs.

I think the reason is more that the torque is low and the gearing is tall, so to keep it from bogging, they have to launch at high rpm.

The GT3 launches at 6700, for those willing to do it.

The reason is a massive lump of metal sitting over the rear wheels.
I'm probably the only person who doesn't get the point of launch control, especially in a 911 with all that rear grip. Thats a lot of stress on the drive train for what?

To go faster? How else would you launch the car? You can't drop the clutch like you can in a manual.

Well you can in the sense that in a double clutch gearbox from standstill the faster you press the accelerator the quicker the PDK/DCT clutch engages and at higher revs. In an M3 that can mean a lot of tyre smoke...in a 911 not so much as the level of rear grip is so much higher.
It is probably just me, I must have too much mechanical sympathy to essentially side step the clutch at 6k rpm just to gain a tenth or so to 60 mph...I'd rather just get on the throttle smartly and live without the clutch slip in a 911, in an M3 the stress on the drivetrain is considerably less as the rear tyres just light up.

B/c you have a turbo M3 that generates more torque at 2500 than that 991 does at its torque peak.

Frankly, the video seems quite underwhelming IMO.
