Real differences between RWD and X-drive suspensions

Does anyone know the real differences between the RWD and X-drive suspensions? I realize at a minimum the springs on the RWD version are shorter but beyond that, what is and what is not interchangeable. I'm looking at a CPO 2010 535 xdrive M-sport to replace my 335i (RWD sport package) and I can't get past the wheel gap. Seems the options are few and far between, with the KW v3's as the only coilover.
