Almost Dead Battery
Has anyone had any experience replacing a battery in their E60? Mine coughs but will not turn over. I've read several accounts of needing to have things reprogrammed after the replacement but I don't want to shell out the $$ if it isn't necessary.
Thanks,

Here's an update. I called AAA and they came out and jumped the car. According to "Billy", who showed up with the tow truck, they don't do battery replacements any more so he didn't have a meter to test the battery. After it started up, I drove around for a couple of hours trying to get it charged. When I got home and shut it off, it started right back up again. So, I waited, four hours later and it won't start again. I guess I need a new battery...

I had to have my battery replaced too. After leaving it sit for 4 or 5 days it would give me the high battery discharge message when I started. The other day after sitting for 24 hours it did the same thing.
I was testing it with my volt meter all along. Fully charged it would read 12.5 volts which would drop off .1 volts per day. The new battery read 12.8 volts and now is at 12.7 volts after two days with me opening and closing the car door a few times. Hopefully, problem is solved. |
