No pics, but here's the parts I used:

Win 7 pro
Fractal Designs R4 case
Asus Maximus VI Hero mobo
Core i7 4770k
GSkill Trident X 16G ram PC19200
Antec 850 pro PSU
Samsung PRO 128G SSD
Corsair H100i cooler
EVGA 550 GTX (existing, works fine for now)

Love the boot speed, got it up to 4.5G OC stable. Huge improvement over my old Q6600 at a total price less than my old system.

Why don't you guys get 256GB Samsung SSD?. I got the 128 and it filled up so quickly.
I know its for OS only but when you start installing other Apps, it'll fill real fast.

I bought the pro model and it is great so far. Samsung's data migration tool is flawless too! It copied over my whole OS drive without any errors, almost a plug and play

I'll probably catch some grief from some of you techies for this, but oh well.

Platform - Alienware Aurora
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Processors - Intel Core™ i7-4820K Processor (10M Cache, 3.90 GHz)
Memory 16GB (4 X 4GB) Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
Keyboard - Artikuno something or other
Monitor - Dell 24'' Ultrasharp
Video Cards - Dual 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 GDDR5 - NVIDIA SLI Enabled
Mouse - Microsoft Sidewinder
Optical Drive Single Drive - 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Sound Card - Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio w/ $20 Logitech speakers lol
Cooling - Standard Liquid Cooling

All I really use it for is finances and Counter-Strike:GO and photo editing. Does the job. Plus it illuminates a bunch of different colors when I turn the lights down to get dirty with the old lady. Ambiance enhancer, haha.

Is water cooling that much quieter ? Any suggestions for elegant cases that have built in dust filters ?

Its not that they are quieter. Its that you can get better cooling efficiency with them, allowing more overclocking and longevity out of your CPU/GPU.

Also, what you consider elegant is different than what I may. It also depends on the size case you want. ATX, mATX, ITX etc all have different size constraints.

That seems like a lot of power for just one game and finances, no? Pretty badass!

Watercooling is awesome, but it is a lot of effort, as noted above.

A properly ventilated and air cooled case, with the right amount of space for air flow, and fans placed in the right locations, will work just fine for most users and even most gamers. This coming from someone who has had watercooling on PC's before. I prefer my setup now, without water cooling, just for ease of use. Cleaning dust off is much easier (to me) than replacing coolant/water and all the trouble that comes with it.

If you really need the juice, and really need to OC a lot (hardcore/graphics intense gaming, pro video editing), then you need more efficient cooling. For your casual user, watercooling is not necessary.

It definitely serves its purpose, and then some, haha. I went a bit overboard when I got my new job and splurged on a few things, and the computer was one. I could have built something for probably 1/3 of that, and I've caught a lot of grief for buying the overpriced shell, but I love it.

Essentially the same build I did with a bit better GPU and a bigger case. Mine runs well, although it will hang up on itself occasionally during gaming. I may have fixed it with drivers though. Also, why did you go Windows8?? I am going to stick with 7 for as long as i can.

Nice rig.

Edit: It is an mATX. Nice! Love the small form factor and clean look.

Thanks! I use 7 at work all day so I wanted a different "experience" for the living room I actually like the metro interface since it makes it easy to launch applications. When I was using Windows 7 at home, I had rainmeter set up with quick launch icons to emulate the quick launch stuff.

Here's some pics of the build. I didn't do such a good job with the cable management though.

Looks similar to mine, but I tried to use some zip ties and tie downs to hold the remaining cables out of the way against the back of my PSU. If I had realized how much of a pain in the ass it was to bundle all of them together, I would have opted for the modular power supply.

You planning on OCing off the bat? I have been toying with the idea of trying to, but I literally do not need it to be any faster, so I cant justify shortening the longevity of the system.

You planning on OCing off the bat? I have been toying with the idea of trying to, but I literally do not need it to be any faster, so I cant justify shortening the longevity of the system.
Yeah, that's why I went with a modular, and it was still tough. It would have been a big pain to get those out of the way with the small case.

That's the first thing I did, lol. I didn't keep it though, I only tried it to see how far I could get. The ASRock utility makes it very easy. I got the CPU up to 4.2 GHz. I didn't try any CPU benchmarks, but it worked fine playing games and general stuff. I got the video card up to 1075/1450 and played some games on it with no issues. I can run all of my games on ultra settings on my 1080p TV with stock settings though, so I'm going to leave it stock for now.
