E60 M5 to get the turbo treatment?
Have the German carmakers gone completely power-nuts? They sure have and nothing seems to be stopping them. New reports are stating that BMW has decided to pick up Audi’s (RS6) glove and introduce the 2009 M5 with a twin-turbocharged version of the current 507 Hp 5.0-liter V10 engine that could easily surpass the RS6’s 580Hp.
MSN-Cars website supports that it may very well have proof of this through a series of spy pics featuring a faintly camouflaged BMW M5. And while one can’t be 100 percent sure of what we’re seeing in the spy pics, we can only think of one good reason other than that BMW is trying out its forthcoming DSG transmission, and that is a revised engine. Their main proof are the two extra black holes on the bumper they state are additional intakes. They looked taped on to me, but you never know! http://cars.uk.msn.com/News/car_news...mentid=6225540

if they were to add additional intakes, im sure the designers whould just expand the exsisting opening rather that add the two goofy looking ones in the pic. Am i the only one that thinks it looks a little wacky?? cheers, shiggy

Some interviews with a BMW representative have already hinted turbo charged M cars some time ago. They said that F1 will also allow forced induction engines so they will also 'consider' introducing turbos to their M line cars. They even gone as far as saying they will introduce diesel M cars if only they can make them rev like gasoline engines.

That was Gerard Richter (VP of //M).^ They've got an article on Insideline about that.
I think the move to FI is a necessary one. Look at AMG's bi-turbo V12, it's a beast. The (unfair) comparo between the M6 and SL65 on Insideline had the M6 beaten into a pulp. Either BMW increases their engine size like crazy, or they slap some turbos. Otherwise, the competition is just gonna leave them behind.

Forget about the tape, that could just be to throw people off. You could add turbos without requiring addition front intakes... BUT, It looks like there is a FMIC sitting inside the front lower intake. Also, there appears to be some kind of divider in the front right and left intakes. Maybe one side going to the brakes and the other to a intake box?
If this is true I may have to leave my boosted 335... A V10TT?! HELLO! ![]() Imagine that with a procede/full exhaust - 700hp? ![]()

Second, I like the "modability" of the 335 over the M5, not to mention its size and two doors. While the M5/6 is a fabulous car I prefer to enjoy the pride of building my car to higher performance levels versus going to the dealership and buying it. The 335 offers a much better platform for this. With the modest amount of time and money I've spent on my 335 I can outperform a M5 on a track or in a straight line, let alone the new M3. After installing my custom valved coilovers I was so fast at the last autocross that people looked at my times and thought I was running full race slicks! If you need proof that its faster in a straight line feel free to search for "walked U's" posted video's showing him passing modified M5's in his 335 sedan. (I have a similar setup with more to come) So yes, I had the ability to buy a new M5 and chose a 335 coupe. Considering what I wanted out of the car, the only reason for me to have bought the M5 is if I was part of the "my-car-has-a-bigger-number-and-costs-more-than-yours-so-im-better-than-you" crowd that so permeates your locale. Cheers.

Thats fine and all, but BMW cannot exist on one car model alone. Variety is the spice of life. We are all part of different demographics and BMW covers us all pretty well I think. But in terms of stock for stock, a twin turbo M5 would be superior to a 335 turbo. Mods for mods is really a pointless endeavor. Anyone can make their A car faster than car B, depending on time and money. If you can make your car faster than mine all power to you. If I have more resources than you so what. For the record I have both the current 335 and E46 M3, again no biggie.

Whoa whoa whoa. Read back a couple posts and my last one. I'm not comparing anything. He referenced the current M5 and implied that there must be something wrong with me for choosing the 335 over the M5. Other than that I agree with you 100%.A V10TT would be an excellent tuning platform and huge step up from my 335. Again check out my post up a couple notches.

well since the new M3 is faster and better than the current M5 in performance wise i would expect them to kick it up a notch with the m5 and m6 (wonder if the m6 gets a TT??)

im talking about why would some one pay more for the m5 when they can buy for less the m3 and they get better performance out of the m3 than the m5 so to make it even they need to have them all on par as in performance standards.
