Carbon Fiber Gone Wild

There are only a few removable interior parts that I could still remove and cover. For those that have read my other Carbon Fiber threads, you will see some color changes and several more trim pieces added, primarily to the doors. Sometimes what your mind sees, the eyes don't like it. So I made changes. Do my eyes like what they see now? Pretty much, but I think the door and rear side trim will need to be changed from the aluminum weave to the Silver Reflections trim I have been using.

I want to thank one of our forum members, "Roll_the_Dice" for the great CF work and for going out on a limb and not saying it can't be done when I asked if he would cover a challenging piece. Thanks Andy!

THE PARTS:

These parts have all been covered with Carbon Fiber cloth. This material is called Silver Reflections. This is a dark carbon fiber weave that has a strand of silver mirror like material woven into the pattern. The light really gives it a lot of character.

I don't think it would be so bad if it was all dark carbon but glad to see your doing something different.

Looks like a good job was made of it though, I would be interested in seeing the material used. Is it just a wrap or an actual cloth?

how is it applied? and did it need clear coated after?

It's carbon fiber material, just like others use, but with a silver strand woven in. Use resin to apply it and a few coats of clear, sanded and polished. Non of that cheap ass stick on crap. There are so many colors and designs of CF out there. I don't like to be a follower. I like originality. Thanks for asking!

once its dried do you just cut it flush with what ever you are covering or do wrap it round the edge if that makes sense?

wondering if I could use this to get a real carbon finish to my wing mirrors

Thanks. I like doing DIY's, not that I really call this one. It is informative however. For those that see it that way anyways.

I know it's not everyone's thing, but I figured that some people might want to see other options and perhaps do a few pieces or look at other Carbon Fiber material options. Their is a great Red Reflections that would look awesome in a red and black interior. Roll_the_Dice deserves the appreciation of the CF work, I just installed it and took the photo's. Thank you!

Thanks Daemon for the kind words and beautiful pictures. I think everything turned out great. Unfortunately, pictures don't do this CF justice. Regular 2x2 twill photos better, but this being so reflective, just can't be captured well...maybe if it had spot lights and professional photos.

When Daemon and I were talking about this...it wasn't hey let's blow this car up with CF...it was all gradual...what about this piece, let's do the door handles, the door pull etc....It all started with the SW trim, paddles shifters, HVAC trim and NAV trim...He already had the silver on the main pieces. Once he received the new CF, he said let's change out the center console and rear console...then he asked about door handles, etc.

My favorite are the paddle shifters, the door handles, and the door pull...The door pull was a PITA, but it worked and looks great. I think he has about 23 pieces total including the silver he already had. I recently did a few full interiors for other forum members and 25 pieces for an M3! So there are definitely more pieces that can be done haha.

In the long run, if he is happy, then I am happy. And I think he is ecstatic!

Long story short. I sent the normal 9 piece interior trim to a shop to get covered in the CF reflections material. The guy says that it isn't available, but I have another silver you will like. So I get it and it is just overpowering. I had to darken the dash. I met Andy on the parts for sale board. We found the material (that wasn't discontinued) and have been changing and adding trim over the past 6 months. Like he said, a photo does this CF no justice at all.

Andy is a great guy to work with. He communicates well. If verbal or written information is difficult to translate, then he'll take the time to use photos. He will always let you know if he runs into an issue and discuss it to make sure you are in agreement to any changes.

If you ever want to do something unique with Carbon Fiber or Kevlar, he can lead you to the sources of information to help find what suits your needs. Don't just ask yourself the what if... or can I... questions when there are people to answer them for you.

Awesome job, but a tad bit overkill imo. I skinned my interior trim too, but only the actual trim pieces doe. You should do the seat back. I been thinking about those next.

I've seen the seat backs that Andy has done. He vacuum bags them and they come out awesome. I have two kids going to college this fall, so I have to give it a break for a bit. It is certainly something to entertain though. Thank you!
