Looking at a '10 BMW 528i

My quest to join the ranks of BMW owners continues. I had been looking at 3 Series BMWs but recently I spotted a 2010 528i with xDrive (AWD). This is a two owner car (original owner leased it, second owner bought it CPO from a BMW dealer and then traded in for a Camaro - ?!). I drove the 528i and it is a nice ride. It has 69k miles and the dealer tells me it has about three months of warranty remaining. As noted it's well contented with a moonroof, heated leather pwr seats, rear A/C, Sat. radio, Bluetooth, 17" V spoke wheels, front/rear stabilizer bars, speed-sensitive Servotronic power steering (variable assist), rain sensing wipers, MP3, telescoping steering wheel column, weather band radio, and lot of other incidentals. Suffice to say it's well contented. My question - is this car worth $23,900? I drove it and it handles great. I've never owned a BMW so I'm asking the forum for advice and counsel. Is this a good purchase or should I keep looking? I still have an appt to check my local BMW lot but they have few 5 Series that aren't really expensive. Let me know.

New owner of BMW528i

Well, I bought the BMW yesterday. And it's a beautiful car, if I do say so myself. But I nearly walked away. With nearly 70k miles on the clock I was told by the used car salesman (Chevrolet dealership) the car came with three months of warranty (specifically covering powertrain). I asked to take the car to a BMW dealership for them to inspect the car. To their credit the Chevy used car salesman agreed. I paid $135 (worth it) to have the BMW techs inspect the car. The sheet of items came back totaling about $2200 worth of parts and labor. The Chevy guy nearly lost his lunch when he saw the estimate. He offered to repair/replace the items at the Chevrolet dealership service dept. I said no. I wanted the price reduced by the $2200 or no deal. The plan would be to have the items repaired by a certified BMW mechanic. The $2200 reduction off the sale price didn't fly either. So we split the difference. Since then I discovered the car is still under the CPO warranty until December 2016 and most of the repair items are covered. So it worked out well. And I own a wonderful car.

Higher than expected MPG in my 528i

My friends don't believe me when I tell them that I achieved over 30 mpg in my 528i on a recent trip to Florida and back to Michigan. It's AWD so I know there's a slight penalty for additional moving parts. And I also had to occasionally resort to pumping midgrade fuel into it in some remote areas when it was thirsty and I was desperate (midgrade but NEVER regular!). It seemed to make no difference in either performance or mileage. At one point at sustained speeds of about 75-80 mph the gauge showed the car was delivering 33+ mpg. I even snapped a photo with my iPhone for proof. I was astonished. That is well beyond what I expected to get in this fairly heavy car with an I-6 and auto trans. But no complaints. I love it!!
