Was out flying my quad today and made the mistake of going into Fremantle - on a day with multiple events, so parking was a bloody nightmare. Was about to give up and leave, and I was waiting in a queue to leave the carpark when Kerrrunch... WTF was that, we said? Some bloody muppet in a 4WD with two bar reversed into the rear left panel of the car, just behind the rear wheel. I reckon they'll need to replace the entire bumper.

Unfu**ing believeable. The loan car came with a $1000 excess

Will be an interesting phone call tomorrow morning.

Provided you got the other drivers details how will you have to pay the excess? Or was it your fault?

i felt sorry for you. was the suspect car still there (don't think so, hit-and-run more likely). I got my accord front bumper damaged from a bloody ute with tow bar, i saw that in action and told the driver you reversed and damaged with my car, got all the details.

it's gonna be a replacement rather than fine panel beating job. good luck.

Sorry, should have said, the driver of the 4WD got out when I did and in response to my "Mate, can't believe you just did that!" Apologized profusely and admitted that he just didn't look behind him when he reversed. I have photo of his car with number plate, photo of his DL and phone number, which was tested immediately. So, should all be good, but I have had fights with insurance companies before over excess where I clearly identified the other driver and wasn't at fault. It all just got too hard and they wouldn't return my calls over it. I've since changed companies.

Yes, the whole lower panel (bumper) seems to be plastic, so isn't a candidate for panel work

Agreed. My passenger was wondering why I was so calm about it. I said "it's only a car, it's not mine, it wasn't my fault. However, if it WAS my new one, I'd probably feel different!"

i have the tyre insurance from BMW, second claim in a month for two tyres... lovely. no more quota for the rest of the year, next one will be out of pocket for $550 ($100 left from $1400 a year allowance on tyre).

Anyway, more developments today. The DL that the guy gave me has expired (I didn't check at the time, I'm too trusting) and his license is also suspended, according to our online system here in WA. I called him and he swears black and blue that the 4WD is insured and that his license isn't suspended. We had a 'nice', non-acrimonious conversation (after all, he has my address too) and I suggested he contact the courts to sort it. The info is all with the dealer now and he was very pleasant about it. So, we'll see.
