Parking Assistant

Heard Parking Assistant in coming in Dec. 13. It's a $500 option that parallel parks the itself. Its a very neat/useful feature for only $500. My wife is a horrible parallel parker and don't want her to destroy my rims when she drives the car. I ordered my F15 and should be arriving in Dec. Asked the dealer if I can get that option since I'll be receiving the car around the time the option is available. The answer was a big NO.

I think it's possible in DEC. not sure why the dealer said NO.
It's not 100% self parking. It will adjust the steering and the drive needs to manage acceleration and breaking. So, I am not sure if its indeed a great feature.

He said must be ordered when it's made available in Dec. If it's not on the package list, can't order it.

Did not know that the driver had to manage the accelerator and the brakes. I thought it was 100% self parking.

I have had this in the old Lexus LS600HL and something similar in the MB S550. It was really cool at first but then I realize it kind of sucks. It also backed me into a car that was wayyy to close for comfort. But then again, this could be entirely different.

Like newbimmer said, you do have to control the accelerator and if you brake too hard or accelerated too much, the parking assistant turns off and makes you look more like a tard than ever.

With that said, I opted out of it on the2014 X5 order.

I have it on one of my other cars. It takes much longer to park than doing it manually. I have used it 2 times (to try out) in past 2 years. Lol waist of money in my opinion.

I understand that there are 20+ sensors. If one goes off line it will not function.

A hold can be placed on an order if you wish to wait for a new feature that has a future dated SOP (start of Production).

Changing orders: Up to 1 week before assembly. ( "Customer-oriented sales and production process” (COSP).
