US recall for brake failures
Interesting, to say the least. Been watching this develop on the US forums, wonder how BMW Australia will respond (if at all):

It will be the usual "Schultz" response I would expect.
"I know nusssing" in my best German accent. Certainly is something I will be watching for sure! H |

Yes, at least in this day and age we are able to be pre-warned about this type of thing. I just wish BMW spent as much time communicating as the time spent trawling the forums <waves to BMW Sydney>

Yep guaranteed nothing will be done by BMW Australia because of our week consumer protection here in Australia
SimonB too funny - it's a shame Australian dealers don't have the smarts to contribute like some of the US dealers do in the US forums.

After the recent VW consumer communication issues. It will be interesting to see if BMW take a hint from that book though. It appears the letters won't go out till November/December in the US. So wait until January, if we haven't heard anything by then, time to start questioning BMW Australia...

I bet they do nothing, who are the spies here from the dealership??? We need to speak out for our Australian niche small global present.
RHD oh Scheiße! wir nicht mit Australien zu tun, was auch immer! (oh sxxt! we don't deal with Australia, whatsoever!) :-)

The Australian market might be small, but considering the profit margins they have here compared to say the US, they must be making more money selling one car here than 3 in the US.

I don't mind that they do and, in fact, welcome it, but I wish that they participated. I'm sure their lawyers wouldn't let them though!

What, so they can say anything that goes wrong with the car or an issue with a dealer has nothing to do with them, their hands are tied, go back to the dealer. How dare you trouble me with your petty little problems you plebeian and so on.
Why would they bother? |

Hi guys, I am new here. I don't see any feedback from Oz owners who report faulty brake. I wonder if we are the lucky bunch that don't suffer from that brake issue!

The issue here is that the market is so small. If you look at the details there have been only 7, or something like that, instances reported in the entire US. From a statistical point it wouldnt even raise a blip and would almost appear to be a one off if it happened here. I actually sent an email yesterdat to BMW in regards to this issue and asked their response. Will advise IF I hear anything back. H |

I know it doesn't work like that, but there is a moral / ethical issue too. They're the same cars, with the same potential fault. I read that, while there were only 7 reports, there would have been a bigger quantity of actual incidents due to non-reports. If it saves one person being killed in Oz, shouldn't a recall still happen here?

i bet that will be like the VW saga if BMW doesn't deal with recall scenario properly. Owner's pressure on media minus Murdoch's papers :-p

I was just going to mention the VW Australia saga as well.
But there is no known report of brake failure in Australia yet? My car, and I would imagine the F30s of most people here, are in the same build time frame as in the recall in the US. My brakes are absolutely fine, touch wood.

The elephant in the room - F30 quality
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798805
People buy BMW's and euorpean cars thinking their driving the best of the best quality, the sad truth is your not! It's just big marketing and brand imagine sucking you in to buy inferior quality and pay a lot for the privledge with over inflated pricing, arrogant service and refusal to recall their inferior products, when clearly they need to be recalled to fix the many problems they have. Perhaps I have been misunderstood Simon? I, not for one second, suggested we shouldnt get the same treatment here and if you read a previous post in the thread I was the one, not saying nobody else hasn't, who has sent an email questioning the stand of BMW Australia on this significant issue.
Please find below the response from the aforementioned BMW Australia who, as I originally sugested, would stick their heads in the sand. Needless to say I have asked to speak to someone higher up the chain for whatever good that will do! BMW Australia response: Thank you for your email. Please be advised that each automotive market acknowledges different safety recalls. Unfortunately BMW Group Australia are unable to provide any sort of meaningful comment on safety recalls that are carried out in other countries. Should you have a safety concern relating to your specific vehicle, please contact your nearest authorised BMW service centre for assistance Be safe. H |

No, I have - it was a rhetorical question :-). Congrats on actually doing something about it and, yes, I expected that non-committal, canned response.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission have just released a product safety recall notice about this, http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/in...itemId/1052997.
Mine was an early 2012 so I am not affected, but I checked the VIN list anyway just to be sure. Will be interesting to see if any of the dealers or BMW Australia are aware of the issue now ...... |

Interesting, I will be contacting my dealer. Other cars with the same production date, model, and VIN +1 of mine are in there, but mine is missing. So it looks like this is potentially not a complete list of all cars affected. If in doubt contact your dealer with this information.
EDIT: Since this is engine related, maybe the engine shipment allocations are why there are gaps in the VIN Numbers. Last edited by IndividualF30; 10-25-2013 at 05:48 PM.. Reason: additional info |

We shall wait & see what BMW does now that the recall is officially on the government's list.
The US report mentioned affected owners will be contacted in November as a fix has not yet (at time of notification) been implemented. I will be contacted by BMW as my car is on the list. To date, I haven't had any braking issues and hope I don't. It's a long list too.
