Poll: ordering a 4 series tomorrow. Need opinions

My original plan was to Order a Msport 435i with black interior with the red stitching and piping but unfortunately that interior option is not available for msport. So my options now are estoril blue with coral red interior which looks sick but might be too much and a little tacky. Or just estoril on black which i had on my f30. Let me know your opinions!

I would consider Black Sapphire with Coral Red, but that's my personal choice.

My vote for EBII w/ Black!

I hate black interiors and red is even worse. The M Sport line is off the table for that reason. In fact, the ONLY 4 series interior I like is Saddle Brown, which requires me to choose the luxury line, and that just pisses me off. Therefore, I'm buying a Porsche Cayman S.

Oh, and go with Estoril Blue/Black since that's the least bad choice available. The fact that BMW limits colors and interiors to certain lines is infuriating. It's too bad, because everything else about the 4 series makes me want one. If they want $60k out of me they're going to have to start offering an array of attractive exterior and interior colors and let me choose any f'ing combination I want.

I think they offer individual options and trims for people like you.

It is sad they want more money for those and there is virtually no additional cost to them to add Oyster/Saddle interior to M-sport but maybe the marketing division made some stupid decisions they want to stick with.

Coral Red would not sell as much as it is, if there were other options on M-sport and sport line. But that is just my humble opinion coming from some gut feeling and not supported by any numbers.

EBII + Black is classic, but boring, imho. I'd prefer Oyster, I loved it on my e90. I traded it in a few weeks ago, and even the car had carfax issue, it was sold in 10 days. It was the only Navi with Oyster car 3 series on the lot. Besides, black does feel hotter under the sun.

Thus, with no Oyster availability, Coral Red with black highlights gets my vote.

Keep in mind. Coral Red and Oyster holds up leather wear a lot better than Black Dakota.

Just want to share this before you make the decision.

Hard to believe, but no it doesn't. The idea behind Porsche's option scheme is that the car is supposed to be expensive. The Cayman S, for example, is supposed to be an $80k to $85k car in Porsche's eyes. So they offer it at a low base price of $65k and then give you hundreds of options (literally) to load it up and personalize it. It's like starting with a blank canvas, and they expect you to end up with $15-20k of options. Viewed from that perspective, it's not the individual option prices that matter, but the final price of the car and the beautiful, customized car that you get for that price.

That is in stark contrast to the way most brands are sold in this country. Most brands load up the base car with all the goodies, and you only have a couple of packages and maybe 5 or 6 options to choose from. That's why so many people complain that a $100k Porsche doesn't have any of the usual features that come standard on cheaper cars. Porsche never intended for anyone to buy a base car with few options. That would be like going to an art gallery and buying a blank canvas and complaining that the painting costs extra. They intend for you to go through the options book and load the car up, and end up somewhere near an "appropriate" price.

In 2007 I ordered a new 911 Carrera S with just over $17k of options. The final price was a tad over $100k and I felt what I was getting was worth it even though the price of each individual option seemed exhorbitant. That's the way you have to look at it when optioning a Porsche.

As a side note, the Porsche leather is of higher quality than what I've seen on 3 series Bimmers. Do the 5s, 6s or 7s get better leather than the 3s?

I'd like to see proof on that, I have not witnessed your findings to be true on a personal note.

I went Estoril + Black on my F31. I agree that the EB/CR looks sick, but it was too tacky for me. Good luck!

I don't mean to bash BMW but I just can't grapple with the fact that the line I choose limits my options. Did someone on the marketing team say "Hey, I have an idea...if someone wants the M Sport, let's not let them order it in Midnight Blue, Imperial Blue or Liquid Blue. The only blue they can have is Estoril Blue. What do you guys think?" and the team responded "Wow, what a great idea!!! Our customers will love that!!!"

They are obviously trying to make the lines truly unique. Seems like they are keeping the sports colors simple and luxury colors separate to trademark their differences. But I agree my favorite interior was always the camel two tone with the black, If that was an option for my msport I would have went with that, but it still looks great with all black .
