Exclamation 2014 x5 orders

Hi Folks,

I am excited about the new X5 and have been passively reading the posts on this thread.

Can't wait to place an order for the new X5 so I thought I will call up one of the local dealerships here in SoCal and see if they have more information on a tentative date for accepting orders. I was told that the production of the new X5 is likely to begin early to mid September and that they would start taking orders sometime late August.

Has anybody else tried contacting a dealership in their area and heard anything different?

Ordered already

Strange that a car made in the US cannot be ordered yet, while in Europe the car dealers already have the ordering system available.

I live in Belgium and ordered mine 2 weeks ago !

According to the dealer production should start in August as the first "showroom" car will be in Belgium on the 23rd of August for a closed room viewing only.

Delivery of my car would be early december ( keep in mind we have 6-8 weeks delay due to overseas shipping)

Congratulation Tony!

Would you mind sharing the options and packages that you selected and how much did those cost?

That will help folks in the US market to get a rough idea on pricing of those options.

Thanks!

I have heard from my sales adviser to expect late October or November delivery. She said that they would receive their "sales training" unit in October, so it would be unlikely they would receive units prior to that.

Also, she mentioned the when BMW released the original X6, they built and stored them in SC ... then shipped them to all dealerships at the same time rather than trickling them in here and there. She expects this again considering they are scheduled to be produced beginning in August.

All the info I have currently ...

The car I ordered is as follows:

X5 3.0d
M sport package which includes:
-carbon black paint
-19 inch wheels with 255/50 in front and 285/45 rear (2PV)
-sport gearbox
-adaptive M suspension
-aluminium satin roofrails
- black satin window borders
-M steering wheel with paddles
interior in leather Dakota Elfenbeinweiss and black (sorry, don't know how the color is called in the US but its the almost white leather interior)
head-up display
Sportseats with full electric controls
4-zone airco
Dark rear windows
Driving assistant Plus
PDC
Rear view camera
Surround view
Xenon lights
Light package
Alarm
Automatic dimming mirrors
Connectdrive package
RTTI
Internet
HiFi loudspeaker system
Towhook

Typically, a lot of these are options in Europe and standard in the US.

For prices, you can find the German pricelist on:

http://www.bmw.de/dam/bmw/marketDE/b...1552183747.pdf

Prices in Europe are usually much higher than in the US.

I believe the new iDrive system is capable of connecting to internet and browsing websites (like a tablet) using a connection from cellular providers in US. I know Verizon is one of the providers. And this functionality works only when the car is not moving.

Anybody else wanna chime in?

Internet browsing has been available for a few years in Europe. I had it in my E70 with a retrofited Euro spec CIC. The internet connection was from my cellular phone but not carrier related, you just need a phone that is capable of doing internet tethering over bluetooth. Not sure if you are referring to that or a different option in the new iDrive and if will ever be available in USA (?).

With all idiots in our government - I doubt i they allow this.
Little example of this idioctraty - I have 2006 BMW 330i with comfort access.
If I close the car and then realize I forgot to pull up one of the windows or closed sunroof - I just press and hold a small grid on my door handle - and it will close all open windows , sunroof and folded mirrors. If I walk to my car in hot day - a few feet away I can press and hold unlock button - all windows go down and sunroof will be open.
The remove this options from 2007 model BECAUSE OF SAFETY REASON!!!!

No,it's indeed the same option you have in Europe on other models like my current 520d. It works with your mobile phone's data connection. It's not carrier related.

The only difference is that on the new X5 you can use the touchpad on the Itouch to browse. And yes, it only works when your standing still (which is understandable from a safety aspect, but it doesn't make it really practical)

Is early December the official estimated delivery date from BMW Belgium ?

I have a proposal from BMW UK for late march if ordered now. That is definitely a very long waiting period....

That's what they told me...but I would not bet on it. As with every new car it will probably be later.

The 4.0d would only start production in December, and some options are only available as of production December, so in this case you are indeed looking a Feb/March for delivery in Europe.

That's always the risk. Then again, I've had cars which were on the market for more than 2 years and had more problems than a brand new model. Both BMW and MB.

Yup, same here. Ordered an 09 M3 with the DCT, sight unseen, took a huge chance on the DCT, and it's been a great car for 4 years now. I think there is some risk involved in the first year of a new model run, but it is overblown. If there are problems, that's what the warranty is for. So I consider the risk to be pretty minor in the overall scheme of things, and not much more of a risk that you get with any car regardless of where it is in the timeline of it's current generation. If I wait a year, then I'm only a year away from the mid life redo or some other little tidbit that's gonna make it better. Can't be always chasing the latest and greatest upgrades just in another month or 4 or 6 or next year.
There's always something better coming, Just have to appreciate what ya get
