M Performance Steering Wheel
Hey guys,
The one thing I am not sure about with the new car is the steering wheel. I tried to get an M Sport steering wheel in the new car but apparently it was all too hard! I was going to get a M Performance steering wheel as an add on and have just been quoted $1730 for the wheel, no airbag. The same wheel can be bought from the States and shipped here for around $600! Even though I shouldn't be surprised, I was. Bugger me! H |

H - I have the M Sport one and I have to admit it is one of the nicest wheels I have had in a car. The problem for you I am guessing is you will need a different airbag.
I have seen the actual airbag on EBay as well as the steering wheel for much less than you were quoted

If I haven't already done something else by the time you get your car I would be happy to but the steering wheel from you, at the right price of course! H |

Nothing 'meant' by it - I don't particularly like the M Sport wheel and wanted to get the M Performance one instead (the dealer actually said they'd 'throw it in', but I'm not sure how serious they were) but its "computer says no" when you are the M Sport pack :-(

I was looking at steering wheels last night, the non-electronic M Perf one, the stock M Sport one and the Individual Merino leather one after someone (SimonB I think?) mentioned it.
The Individual one would be my pick at the moment if I can get it fitted - what I read last night seems to say that you need to have either Lane Departure and/or Lane Change Warning optioned, which are two of the small handful of options I didn't take (p.15 http://www.bmw.com.au/com/en/newvehi...spec-guide.pdf). Hate to think of the cost though. Will likely install the M-sport wheel (I can't decide if I like the red stripe on the M Perf wheel and worry that the Alcantara will wear too much). I'd be shipping from UK or USA as HFW003 found out about our pricing issues on parts. Quote:
I'll find out if when order it. |

Ta.
Re-reading your post I think I misunderstood you when you said no air bag. I took it as you needed to buy it in addition to the new wheel. Goes to show about how I think about how BMW does sales on parts! (probably a hang over from the brake kit needing the rear discs bought separately). |

I suspect (purely on a guess) that the no air-bag with the Performance Wheel is because of the explosive charge(s). Probably makes it a little hard to air freight :-)
I will be asking my dealer to try a little harder tomorrow.

I know several people in the US :-). Thanks for the advice. One of these days, BMW along with Adobe and Microsoft (plus others) will realise that it's a global economy these days...
