lojack on 335i
I was talking to a BMW dealer in SoCal about installing lojack on a 335 coupe. He said that they only recommend the standard Stolen Car Recovery package and not the Early Warning system. He said something to the fact the Early Warning system interferes with the electronics in the car. Did anybody hear anything like this before? (In my opinion, lojack is worthless without the EW. BMW assist is there already, right?)

They're all a waste of money... Just have REALLY good insurance (AIG, USAA, or something like that)...
Personally, if someone steals my car, I don't want it recovered. Let the fuckers keep it. Have you seen a theft recovered car before? 9 times out of 10 they are totally trashed with messed up rims, suspension, and all other mysterious items that you'll never be too sure about... |

If you get BMW Assist (Bluetooth, enhanced Roadside Assistance, GPS/Wireless comm system for collision notification), it will automatically include Stolen Vehicle Recovery. In some states, this will also qualify for an auto insurance discount. I would go for this option rather than LoJack.

I have LoJack EW in my E93. I haven't noticed any issues with the electronics of the car. The main issue I have is that I occasionally get false alerts from the EW center. It's kind of interesting to take a Bluetooth phone call in the car from LoJack saying the "car may have moved without your permission". I haven't gotten around to calling up LoJack and complaining.
I do have CA installed on the car so the key (and LoJack keyfob) stay in my pocket instead of being plugged in the dash. Maybe the LoJack keyfob isn't close enough to the receiver in the car all the time. Or maybe something else is going on entirely. I like the piece of mind with yet another layer of security on top of the BMW Assist. |

As above people have said LoJack is useless on new cars like BMWs. It is virtually impossible to steal the car by any means other then dragging it onto a flatbed or towing it away. You can't jimmy the door. You can break the window but good luck trying to start it without the FOB.

Imagine this hypothetical scenario: Husband and wife both go on trip. Unknown to each other, each puts their key into their luggage. For whatever reason, both pieces of luggage gets stolen. So they don't have any keys to the car anymore. Are you telling me if they call the dealer and say "Help! We need to get access to our car", the dealer is gonna say: "Nope, it can't be done, send the car to the junkyard." Obviously not. It's always possible. It's just how much time you want to take trying to steal the car. I'm gonna guess if the bad guys can get access to the ECU, someone can make something to piggyback in to get the car to start. And, if that's the case, it could be stolen in minutes without even needing the key. Heck, I have CA. It wouldn't surprise me if it could be done wirelessly. |

Comfort Access, HD Radio, Sirius, IPOD, IDrive. I also have a Valentine 1, an Escort SRX and a Navalert wired into the car. I have had no problems so either: A; The LoJack doesn't interfere B; The LoJack isn't working.

I also have LoJack EW and no issues.
Dealer BS! I have LoJack and every available electronic option in my 335i. 0 issues here. My LoJack was not working and would alert me sometimes after I was on the road for 2 hours with no fob. Lol. They came out and fixed it. If you are having issues, call them and ask for a fix. Apparently in my case the antenna was too far in the trunk and reception was a problem.
Ok, I got suckered. I will never buy LoJack or anything like this, its pointless and $$$ in a car such as ours. The smart thing would have been to just save the money and get gap insurance instead. Seriously its a waste.
