Help!!! Dealer tells me to remove my subs!
So here is the story. I have my car at Rusnak BMW in Westlake Village, CA because after a warranty replacement of my rear brake pads and sensors, my car started throwing DSC malfunctions, intermittent ABS malfunctions, and locking up of the new navigation flash they did.
They now told me that if you read the sticker on your windshield, it says not to put any aftermarket stereos in the car because it could mess with the control sensors blah blah blah. Well I think its stupid that they are saying that it will void my warranty for having a stereo system in and to check the voltages they want to charge me 300$. Any suggestions guys? Id like to just take it to someone that specializes in BMW audio or something, what do you guys do, I know im not the only one that has a stereo system in their 3 series. I have two kenwood subs and an alpine mrp-m850 and the amp isint even in full use. |

Don't they have to prove that the subs did infact cause damage before they can void the warranty.

yes, they have to prove that the aftermarket equipment was the cause of the warranty issue in order to legally viod the warranty on that specific repair. they can't void the entire car warranty.
my advice, check over your sub/amp install to make sure everything is correct, then let them prove that the installation is causing the problem. Dealers are quick to make people remove things. if they really break your stones on it, simply remove the fuse from the power lead or open the circuit breaker and let them run there tests then. with no current flowing to the amp, the system is as good as removed. see what they say to that!!! |

UMMMMMMMM........
I'll tell you from experience that it's most likely nothing to do with your subs...... HOWEVER, thats not to say that your subs and amp are not drawing excess current whichh is draining your charge. The voltage system in all the newer BMWs is very smart and can recognize when things are there that shouldn't be. You should ask the dealer to run a "short test" and tell me what faults they come up with. tell them you want the code numbers as well as description. You can then Email me them and I can let you know what the cause could be for your light

If I were troubleshooting a car that had had third-party work done on it I'd be damn sure to make sure the owner knew I wasn't ponying up to fix problems with the mods. |
