ipod classic charging/power off problems

My iPod Classic 80GB works just fine with 6FL.

However, it never turns off. So eventually the battery gets drained.

Yes, I have checked back after half an hour with the car locked. I've checked after eight hours with the car locked and my CA key no where near the car. Peeking through the window, I still see my iPod screen brightly displaying that it's attached to an accessory.

Has anyone used a Classic yet with 6FL? Does it charge/turn off for you?

Thanks

It's not that the iPod isn't being charged. The problem is that the iPod fails to disconnect from the car when the connection is closed. The iPod stays on (as does the screen) and then it runs flat.

Install the iPod classic update (v1.0.1) using iTunes. It solved the problem for me.

See my post here for another problem I have with the classic and the way albums are listed:

Are you sure that the 1.0.1 update worked? If this is right, I will be buying a new classic - my 5.5G iPod goes flat all the time...

I'll try it today and will be able to test it overnight tonight.

Paul -- if you are right, you are da man! :rocks:

Bad News....

It has done it again

So the v1.0.1 update doesn't address the problem entirely (it may have 'slightly' addressed the problem by accident!)

I left the iPod (fully charged) in the car overnight and this morning it was completely flat - it doesn't seem to disconnect and go to sleep...
If I unplug the iPod on the other hand, it DOES disconnect and then behave normally.

I'm sure they'll sort it out eventually.

Cheers,

Paul

I just had a new Y adapter and MULF installed for the same issues. Not yet sure if it solved the issue but BMW says it will.

msimon18 -- please let us know if it works. I've got a tentative appointment with my dealer now. It would probably help to tell him what fixed yours.

Thanks

I can now confirm the move to the ipod Classic 1.0.1 operating system did not solve my battery draining/no power off problem. But, like Paul's experience, it does properly disconnect now when I physically disconnect it.

msimon18 -- any update on if the dealer was able to make yours charge and power off properly?

OK - YES - It seems to be working fine now. I just took it out of the car - turned of the hold button and turned it on and the battery is FULLY CHARGED !!! It also seems to turn off correctly too. Car removes power form the iPod after about 30 seconds or so then the iPod shuts down about 30 seconds or so later. Seems that the new Y cable and replacement MULF board solved the issue.

The new Y cable appears to have a smaller brick too s it is a bit easier to stow in the glovebox.

So it sounds like the new v1.0.1 fw on the Classic + the new Y cable seems to do the trick? Does anyone who has this combo dispute that?

Well, Paul also had the MULF replaced, so that may be required as well. I'll be able to chime in at the end of next week. I have an appointment with BMW Service on Wednesday.

I am pretty sure that my MULF board replacement fixed ANOTHER issue not the iPod charging. I believe the iPod charging issue was resolved with the new Y adapter AND the V27 software update.

As of now everything in my 335 is working perdectly - no intermittent issues since last service when the above changes / rerpairs were made.

ipod Photo charging issues -- killed my car battery

I have a 2007 328xi with iPod 6FL - I took delivery of it last month. Anyway, I've had an issue that one of my iPods (iPod Photo) does not shut off when the car is turned off. Just two days ago, I went to start the car and the battery was dead. I believe that it's the iPod that killed the battery.

Anyway, now I'm trying to ascertain if the issue is my iPod or the car. After reading this thread, I'm wondering:

* What is a MULF board and how do I know if I need mine replaced?

* How can I tell if anything is wrong with my Y adapter connector?

Thanks!

Sounds good. I am going to try and get in there for an upgrade and the new cable this week. Im sure this doesnt resolve the slow scroll issue but at least Ill be able to charge.

The MULF board is a $500 computer. You probably do not need that since I had other issues as well that a new board corrected.

The new Y cable may already be in your car - mine was mfg in May. But --- the new V27 sw is not as it came out in early September.

Make sure you have the new Y cable (smaller brick than the original) and the V27 sw. If you still have the charging issue after that they should automatically replace the MULF board.

Good Luck

Rebirth24 - it does not fix the slow scroll. They need to make other more substantial sw changes for that.

Very good to know. Thanks for differentiating between the MULF board fixes and the v27/Y adapter fixes. I don't have the FM switching problem at all, so I probably don't need a new MULF. When I go in Wednesday, I'm going to suggest to the dealer that he save us both a lot of headaches by just letting me try v27 and a new Y adapter first.

My ipod problem is gone! Life is good.

I had the problem with my ipod battery draining when I parked. I had the dealer give me the newer cable and the problem went away. I did have to plead my case a little. The BMW part guides claim the new cable is simply a cosmetic change from the older version and is functionally identical. Obviously that is not the case. I did not change the MULF board or anything else. The only thing I changed was the cable.

Yes apparently according to the Service Guy at my BMW dealer the cable has nothing to do with it and its the Progman that has to be updated in order to resolve the issue. All the info Ive gotten on this page leads me to believe it IS in fact the cable but we'll see.

Well they did not touch Progman on my car. Literally the only change was the cable.

The skinny is thast the original Y cable brick was current limited and would not allow enough current to charge the iPod correctly. The same issue arose on the iPhone which is how they found the issue to begin with !!
