F30 328i M-Sport in Canada

Out of curiosity, does anyone have an F30 328i M-Sport in Canada? If you have one, was it worth the challenge of importing it? I'm thinking of doing it this summer.

Indeed, we always seem to get the shaft. I'm just wondering if any Canucks have imported from the US and if they thought it was worth it in the end.

You would have to get one slightly used in that case as I understand U.S. BMW dealers are not allowed to sell new cars to Canadians.

Yup. Just email a dealer. They will say the same.

I had a quote from a fairly large dealer that had the M Sport Package on the 328i. They had to ask BMW Canada and apparently they got the authorization. I didn't act on it because I elected to wait for the F31.

Was there a special charge for the M Sport Package? I'm assuming it was a dealer in QC?

Yes, large dealer in Quebec. It had a $400 special order fee & other surcharges, but the car clearly had EBII & M-Sport packages.

My salesman at Laval told me the same thing, but I have yet to see myself live or in picture a Canadian 328Msport...

My question all along. Why would BMW offer the .sport on 335 and f31 touring 328i yet not on 328 or 320 f30's like in USA. I mean is it that hard that if someone wants to add those parts and color you just ask your SA to build? Let's hope the 428i will have .sport pack for Canada.

I am surprised BMW was willing to allow a 328 m-sport to be special ordered in Canada. In comparison, I asked to get the special m-sport cloth / alcantara seats on my 335 m-sport rather than leather like they have in other countries outside of North America and BMW Canada refused. Clearly their behaviour seems pretty fickle as to what they will or will not allow!

It is believed that the seats require certification from Transport Canada or the DOT/NHTSA, due to airbags...

Interesting - If this is true, it is typical North American arrogance that we think we are superior to the Europeans and need separate certification programs.

I don't think you can call it arrogance or a question of superiority. It is about governments not allowing another country completely outside of their control to set their laws re. transportation safety. You would not want a situation in which EU legislation required that all cars be limited to 90 km/h and have 24 airbags, and then automatically Canada had to follow these requirements without any participation in the creation of the laws.

Sorry, you missed my point. If the issue is some kind of test relating to the are bags in the seats when they are covered in a fabric as opposed to leather, then the craziness is Canada not relying on some kind of safety test done by the Europeans. The Germans have no speed limits on many of the autobahns and, having lived in Germany, I am aware first hand that the Germans are good at what they do. If the Germans tested the safety of the air bags in this situation, Canada should be able to accept the tests as adequate for Canadians. It is as crazy as the days when we had hulking big bumpers on our cars compared to the Europeans - our goverment finally saw the light and dropped the foolishness on that. The Europeans are usually ahead of us in many ways but North Americans typically don't see that.

No, sorry, you are missing the point. It doesn't matter whether it is seat fabric, airbags, microwave ovens... No country will give up its lawmaking to another nation or other government body, and with good reason. I'm sure the European tests are great, but we have no opportunity to influence them in any way. I agree that it would make sense for Canada / US and Europe to standardize their regulations on cars, but even in the case of the bumpers, we changed our regulations, we didn't just decide to get rid of our regulations because the Europeans had their own.
