Radar Detector Users
i have a passport X50 and would like to know if when i detect the laser is it too slow to slow down? when i get the laser warning does it mean the cop is hitting me or possibly the other cars? because i have been hit twice already and was never able to slow down. please help

Thats the thing with laser, if they zap you its too late to slow down, unless they are zapping a car before you.

Right, but you will never know for sure.

This is why you have jammers installed. I have them on all the time and have a "off" switch under the steering column. When the detector goes off, I hit the brakes (hard) and reach down and switch the jammer OFF. The police don't suspect too much as they end up getting a reading... I have the Blinder...try here...http://www.jammersstore.com/

The manufacterers of laser jammers claim you can in fact pick up laser signals in the air, which will in turn set off your detector. If I had to guess, I'd say this would be rare. If it's your car that gets hit, like mentioned above, you're screwed.
You have the Passport 8500. It is compatible with the Passport Shifter SR7 laser jammer. This is important because you don't need the display portion of the SR7, as it will feed through your 8500. Also, the diffusers can be placed behind your lower front grills, without causing a obstruction. The difusers on a Blinder M24/40 can't be blocked, so you would have to cut. I have an 8500, and I'm def getting the SR7...I just keep putting it off.

Seriously though, if you have a laser detector and it goes off, you've been hit, not the car behind you or in front of you, etc... It's extremely unlikely that you've caught a beam that dispersed enough to cover two cars, since laser covers a surface of ~18 inches 1000ft from the gun. |

I'd love to have a jammer and detector, but in Ontario Canada the radars are illegal, we get them confiscated and a $100 fine.

All police officers are not dumb.
95% laser detector will just inform that you are hit. You are lucky if it did not get the reading yet (5%). Lase jammers work technically. If they are prohibited, you need to set them to jam only for a couple of seconds so that the police don't get suspicious. The police should not notice that you are slowing down. Luckily they measure typically from the front, so they don't see your brake lights. On the other hand if also detectors are prohibited, you need to learn not to brake at radar warning (it can come fron the back) and you need to learn to brake for two seconds when you get the laser warning. Life is difficult if radar detectors, laser detectors and laser jammers are all illegal with clearly higher sanctions than just $100 in fines...High fines and all those stuff you have carefully disintegrated and hidden around the car could be confiscated if they try really hard to find them. |

laser guns do come up with a no read or error message roughly 15% of the time. This i learned from both the techs at K-40 radar detector company, as well as a police officer friend who we had try out a laser gun on a few cars after we installed detector/jammers on customer cars. when most officers detect a no reading they either go for another car, or try your's again if there is enough time. they usually don't start shooting till 1000 ft away as you are approaching at 65-80 mph. they shoot and the look at the display. it reads error or nothing at all, then they have to re-sight you and shoot again. now it isn't easy to keep an accurate shot on a car going 65mph at 3-500 ft away, so they usually go for car behind you. remember, by law, they can pull you over for 'driving in excess of the speed limit' which the courts say they do not need a gun reading to prove. officers are apparently trined to be able to tell that you were going over the posted speed limit by eye, but in CT at least it is only a $75 ticket, and most police officers don't find the paperwork worht hte $75 ticket when they can just shoot the cars behind you and get someone without a jammer, that way they have a gun reading to prove the speed they got you at for a larger ticket.

cops can only you lasers when they are not driving right? most of the time they have to shoot with the gun standing outside. what about the k and the ka bands? they seem to have them only constantly when driving

Yeah they usually always have their K and ka radar on when they're driving. Keep in mind they don't work if they are driving in the same direction as you are. They will only work on cars going the opposite direction.
