Alarm Motion Sensor Not Working
Hello fellow Bimmer lovers and drivers. Just registered to participate in these forums. I'm onto my third BMW... and am loving my 2006 330i. An awesome vehicle. I traveled many hours to purchase this car and have had it back to the original dealer a few times for some minor tweaks... but now I am about to go absolutely nuts. I have had the "pre-wired" alarm actually activated... meaning that I had purchased the kit and had the additional pieces needed to make it actually work installed. And... it works great. Lights blink and audio confirmation is accurate on both lock and unlock feature. The tilt, the hood... all works... except the motion sensor, or... as BMW refers to it (ultrasonic module). I have discovered that the cover panel to the ceiling dome light just behind the rear side of the sunroof is solid. The slots are not notched out, so there is no way for the sensor behind it to be activated by any interior motion. I have literally exhausted numerous days of internet searching trying to find a replacement cover panel for this. Even the two BMW dealers that I have spoken with cannot come up with that piece. One was able to tell me he can get me an entire ceiling light assembly... for $85. This piece of plastic shouldn't be worth more than a few dollars... and I am hoping that someone out there might know of how I can get this specific replacement part. It should come in either beige or grey. I need the grey. I greatly appreciate any and all info that anyone can supply.

I think there is a service bulletin that addresses this and it should be replaced under warranty with the slotted part.

Bill.... thanks for your memo back. I will see if I can find out more about that service bulletin. I just never thought this was going to be so difficult to locate the correct trim piece. Who knew, right?
Thanks again. Rich |

Thanks so much Park828. These links that you supplied have cleared a lot up for me. I now am sharing this information with several dealers to see if any of them can come up with the correct piece that I need. So far, two have informed me that their "parts books" don't show any such piece sold by itself.
Hopefully... the third will come through for me. Thanks for your help!!! |

I'm sure if you get the SIB # the stealer will get educated and will do what they are supposed to do... give you a new piece no charge.
